Magnus stood silently in the pristine hallway of the Vanguard Medical Center. Through the heavy reinforced glass, he watched a highly specialized team of doctors carefully transfer Maya into the Presidential Suite. The agonizing, rhythmic beep of the failing state clinic machinery from yesterday was entirely gone. It was replaced by the incredibly quiet hum of the most advanced medical filtration technology in the world. A profound, overwhelming sense of relief washed over him. The crushing, suffocating weight that had tightened around his chest for three grueling years finally evaporated. She was safe. She was going to live a long life. The exile was officially over. His cracked smartphone vibrated softly in his palm. He lifted the broken device to his ear. "The medical transfer is completely finalized, sir," Corbin said clearly. "Your sister is currently receiving the absolute highest tier of medical care available on this continent. The doctors are incredibly optimistic. I also have an urgent update regarding the Sterling family." "Go ahead," Magnus said quietly, keeping his eyes entirely on Maya. "Wild rumors are spreading very rapidly across the university campus this morning," Corbin noted, his human voice steady and professional. "The student body is deeply confused by the events at the VIP club last night. Some students actually believe you won a massive underground lottery jackpot. Others are spreading a ridiculous narrative that you are acting as a money launderer for a violent criminal syndicate. Shall I deploy a corporate crisis management team to control the narrative?" "No," Magnus replied smoothly. "Let them talk. Rumors always thrive on complete ignorance. It makes our enemies incredibly careless. What about Councilman Sterling?" "The Councilman is rapidly accelerating the city zoning ordinance vote," Corbin reported. "He fully intends to seize our commercial properties in the southern district by tomorrow afternoon. He believes the trust is legally vulnerable. However, our corporate legal team is fully prepared to absolutely blindside him with the massive property acquisition we finalized last night." "Excellent," Magnus said, a dark smile playing on his lips. "Let him build his political gallows. We will gladly provide the rope. I am heading to the campus right now." The Anthropology building was buzzing violently with nervous energy. As Magnus walked through the heavy wooden double doors, the ambient chatter immediately died down into a tense, suffocating silence. Hundreds of eyes locked directly onto him. Students pointed discreetly. Whispers echoed sharply off the polished marble walls. "He looks exactly the same as yesterday," a girl whispered loudly. "Where did he get the money to buy out the entire VIP club?" "I heard he stole it from a cartel drop," a male student replied. "Look at those bruises. He is definitely mixed up in some very dark business." Magnus completely ignored the venomous, ignorant whispers. He adjusted the frayed strap of his faded canvas bag and walked deliberately toward the entrance of Lecture Hall A. Before he could even step inside the room, a heavy hand slammed hard against the wooden doorframe, blocking his path entirely. Professor Dominic Shaw stood there, glaring with sheer, undisguised contempt. Shaw was a notoriously corrupt academic. He was a man widely known across the campus for artificially inflating the grades of wealthy legacy students in exchange for extremely generous department donations. "You are not stepping a single foot inside my classroom, Mace," Shaw said, his voice dripping heavily with venom. "Excuse me, Professor," Magnus said calmly, his face betraying absolutely no emotion. "I am properly registered for this lecture." "Not anymore," Shaw sneered aggressively, stepping much closer. "You are currently under a very serious investigation. The department fundraising lockbox was emptied entirely yesterday afternoon. Over five thousand dollars in cash is missing. And then, miraculously, a notorious campus beggar is seen throwing around massive stacks of hundred dollar bills at the Onyx Club." Magnus narrowed his eyes slightly. "You are openly accusing me of grand theft without a single shred of actual evidence." "I do not need physical evidence when I have a highly credible witness," Shaw said very loudly, intentionally ensuring the entire crowded hallway could hear the heavy accusation. The crowd of students parted quickly as Trent Sterling stepped forward into the open space. Trent wore a crisp new designer suit and dark aviator sunglasses. He was desperately trying to hide the deep, exhausted bags under his eyes. His hands were trembling slightly, a lingering physical consequence of carrying heavy drink trays for six straight hours under the terrifying threat of total financial ruin. Trent offered the crowd a perfectly practiced look of deep sympathy. "It is completely true, Professor. I saw him with the stolen money yesterday afternoon at the courtyard fountain. I tried my best to stop him. I told him the department desperately needed that cash for the upcoming charity drive. But he just laughed in my face and threw some of it in the mud to mock me." Magnus stared directly at Trent. The sheer audacity of the lie was almost impressive. Trent was desperately trying to rewrite the narrative of yesterday to protect his completely shattered ego. "You are a terrible liar, Trent," Magnus said quietly. "Are your legs still sore from your long shift last night?" Trent flinched visibly. The color drained completely from his face for a split second before he forcibly recovered his arrogant posture. "I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. You are clearly delusional from the overwhelming guilt. Professor Shaw, this thief is a profound danger to our academic community." "I entirely agree with you," Shaw nodded vigorously. He pulled a radio from his leather belt. "Security. I need immediate assistance at Lecture Hall A. We have successfully apprehended the student who stole the department fundraising cash." "Professor," Magnus warned, his voice dropping into a deadly, freezing register. "I strongly suggest you think very carefully about what you are doing right now. You are actively acting on the word of a spoiled child who is clearly paying you off." "How dare you accuse me of institutional corruption," Shaw shouted, his face turning incredibly red with manufactured outrage. "My academic reputation is completely flawless. The Sterling family has been a generous financial pillar of this prestigious university for decades. You are nothing but common street trash." Two heavy campus security guards pushed their way violently through the crowd of gaping students. They grabbed Magnus aggressively by both of his arms, twisting them painfully behind his back. "Do not struggle," the larger guard grunted heavily. "You are going straight to the disciplinary committee. They are convening right now to handle your expulsion." Magnus did not fight back. He stood perfectly still, letting the heavy guards hold his arms securely. He looked directly at Trent, who was now smirking triumphantly behind his dark sunglasses. Trent really thought he had won. Trent really thought his family money could erase the absolute humiliation of serving drinks. Suddenly, the tiny wireless earpiece tucked deep inside the right ear of Magnus crackled to life. "Sir," Corbin whispered, his human voice entirely devoid of panic. "I have just successfully bypassed the security firewall on the personal encrypted cloud drive belonging to Professor Shaw. I have completely secured ten years of offshore bank receipts, fabricated grading sheets, and direct email correspondence deeply proving he accepted enormous cash bribes directly from the Sterling family." Corbin paused for exactly one second. "Do you want me to trigger the Nuclear Option right now, or save it for the disciplinary tribunal?" Magnus let out a slow, incredibly terrifying laugh. The dark sound chilled the entire hallway, silencing the whispering students instantly. He smiled coldly at the red faced professor and the smirking heir. "Save it," Magnus said clearly, his voice echoing loudly in the sudden, heavy silence. "I want a much larger audience.”
