Bea’s p.o.v
Today is my first day at the new hell people like to call high school I am not good in school I never have been I don’t learn well from books and computer screen’s I like to get my hands dirty and make something but unfortunately, I don’t get much of a choice. My grades get me to pass classes the only things I am good at are art and home science which is basically cooking and general life preparation for when I graduate so I find it useful. Aunt Emma dropped me off and is picking me up for the first day then I must get the bus which I am dreading it’s worse enough being in a huge building with loads of teenagers but being stuck on a cramped moving vehicle without supervision for them is not good. At my old school I could walk there and back with my friends everything was so easy going I could look, wear, act and talk however I want but as I sit in this dull office awaiting the principal to great me looking out on to the streams of adolescents through the wide window, I can tell this is going to be the complete opposite of easy. “Miss Fell, Mr Grant will see you now” the middle-aged assistant with high hair and too much makeup says as she gawks at me disapprovingly. I step in his office and the tall skinny man with grey hair eyes me from head to toe continuously for what seems like ages making me feel like I showed up nude or something. I didn’t think my outfit was that far out today its only black bell bottom jeans covering my wedge heal boots, my favourite long sleeve black hooded, zip up sweatshirt and plain white tank top underneath. No band or motorcycle logos in sight I thought I had better try not to stand out too much. “Miss Fell I am Mr grant the principle here, I have a feeling we will be seeing more of one another on a regular basis” he grins at me in a way that makes my skin crawl with both disgust and anger. Pervert! How dare he judge me. I stay silent as he hands me my class schedule and urges me to look over the school rules and dress code on the second sheet of paper. I nod just wanting to get out of his office as soon as I can. He dismisses me with the same grin on his face as before “oh miss fell if you ever need anything please don’t hesitate to stop by my door is always open” ok now I just want to be sick! I exit and make my way to the first class of the day… English... great! I am dyslexic but no one knows, I can read and right ok, but my spelling is awful, handwriting is unimaginable, and I can’t read aloud unless is song lyrics. “Good morning class this is Miss Beatrix Fell our new student” I say nothing and go striate to the first available seat with all eyes on me including the teacher who I think is a bit miffed I don’t great her. “Miss fell is there anything you would like to say to the other students so they can get to know you better?” I take a deep breath not wanting to be known at all “it’s Trixie and no” the rest of my day go’s pretty much the same way, I sit in silence trying not to drift off to sleep from boredom or stand out more than I already do. all the girls in this school look the same so far… dresses or skirts, kitten heals or flats, blond or mousey brown hair, it is all so feminine and tedious. The guys are all in blue jeans and flannel shirts or plain tea’s a lot have team jackets on too, do not get me wrong some look good but mostly it’s a sea of identical people. In Brooklyn there was so much variety you could not ask for a more interesting collection of teens you had the goths, princess, sporty ones, geeks, R&B crowd, the list goes on. I did not have to worry about fitting in because everyone stood out. The last bell of the day goes and practically runs from the building to the parking lot in wait for Aunt Emma only to receive a text saying she got caught up with something I guess I have to get the bus “s**t!” I say out loud without thinking or looking wear I was walking as I almost bashed into a motorcycle turning to find the bus “hay watch the bike” I hear a deep voice warning me and the owner of it is sexy as hell! I shift my gawking from the tall dark haired bad boy in dark blue jeans and open zip leather jacket to the gorgeous bike I almost fell over “oh umm… sorry I wasn’t looking but don’t worry If I had bashed that bike, I would pay whatever it cost to get it repaired, she is a beast!” he chuckles “you got that right, you know much about bikes?” I watch him take out a matt black helmet from under the seat then lean against the bike in a way that was vibrating sexy bad boy vibes in my direction “not as much as I would like” I admit stepping close enough to smell the leather and oil sending my senses on to overdrive and my bottom lip between my teeth. “Not seen you around before, you must be the new girl everyone’s talking about” “yeah, I guess you don’t see many new faces around here?” “not one as pretty as yours at least, names Jarred” I giggle and take his extended hand shaking it gently “I think you mean different but thanks, I’m Trixie” “different looks good to me” he checks me out not caring how obvious he’s going about it “well It was nice meeting you I better go find my bus” I turn about to step away when I realise he hasn’t let go of my hand yet. “a bus, that sucks how about I give you a ride home instead?” I don’t even hesitate in nodding my head “thanks I wou...” I don’t even get out a reply when I hear my name from behind Jarrad’s bike “BEA!” already knowing the voice to be Jake’s and he sound angry; I drop my head and Jarrad’s hand immediately feeling slightly embarrassed “another time maybe?” Jarrad watches me walk to Jake’s car silently nodding my head offering him a small apologetic smile.
Jake’s p.o.v
She gets in the car, I can’t help but be angry at what I was witnessing seconds earlier, was she really going to get on that death trap with a complete stranger that was obviously bad news in his leather jacket ogling at her? Is she that reckless? The look on her face when she spotted me stung a little too it was as if I'd embarrassed her and why can she talk to him not me? I don’t know what to say on the ride home I am certain Bea would sit there in silence the whole way, but I cannot hold my tongue any longer “I hope you weren’t going to get on that motorcycle?” no response, I am getting more annoyed, why can’t she just answer the f*****g question. Alright Jake calm down you’re almost a fully qualified psychiatrist for God sake stay cool she should not be affecting you like this. “My mother asked if I could pick you up for your first day as she got caught up with something, I tried calling you” she digs around her bag pulling out her phone to check if I had indeed tried calling her, great she doubts me. “I don’t think mother would approve of you hanging around people like that, I know I don’t. guys like that are only after one thing Bea” still nothing… think man think what I can do to get her to talk “how was your first day?” s**t bad move! Nothing once again. I take a hard right turn down a dirt track and slam on the brakes causing her to jump up in the passenger seat and hold on to the door handle for dear life. “Bea I am trying very hard to be patient with you but I need you to start answering my questions or I will be recommending someone more qualified to my mother for you, which will be on your permanent medical record and they will probably put you on medication too, if you are not already on some that is?” she looks at me with those big brown eyes full of a questioning fury “don’t play dumb with me Bea I know you went to the drug store Saturday, so what are you on? Antidepressants antianxiety, sleeping pills?” nothing… no response she simply closes her eyes takes a deep breath then gets out the car slamming the door behind her. Infuriating girl! I go after her practically running to catch up grabbing her arm from behind she spins around taking my knees out from behind and dropping me on my arse hard “aww f**k Bea, what was that for?” she looks just as shocked by her actions as I am “stop trying” she almost whispers it before turning back toward the car, I take a moment or two to get up admiring her perfectly rounded rear as it walks away, she did not mean stop trying or she would have shouted it at me what she means it try something else. I wrack my brain and resume the drive home coming up with only one idea I pull into the garage and lock the doors before she can exit. Causing her to start biting her inner cheek. I like that little trait so much “I will make you deal Bea, if you answer me 10 questions, I will tell my mother you are adjusting well so far, school was great, you made friends already and Neglect to mention the biker boy. How does that sound?” she takes a deep breath contemplating my offer “3 questions, yes/no answers” oh good we are negotiating. “5 questions with explanation” “4 questions no explanations” “final offer 3 questions with an explanation” “fine” ok good now what do I ask? “What medication are you on?” she looks down at her hands fiddling with the slightly ripped sleeve of her sweatshirt “birth control” oh god I have not even thought of that, is she sexually active already? “Do you need that? I mean are you not a virgin?” “She looks mortified I would even ask her that “is that your second question?” “Yes! No! umm… no that is none of my business” the relief of her expression was priceless telling me she was most definitely a virgin, or she would have been more comfortable discussing it “why would you be willing to get on a bike with someone you just met?” “It seemed like a better option than the bus” ok so she hates the bus “I never liked the bus ether, but I don’t want you getting hurt on a bike with guys like that!” “Just because he wears black leather clothes and drives a motorcycle it doesn’t make him a bad guy!” she shouts at me catching me off Gard “you don’t even know him and you’re defending him?” “Your right I don’t but I know that everybody around here defiantly judges a book by its cover!” at least I have her talking well shouting at me and I cannot deny peoples criticism in this area especially after what happened to her at the salon. I take a moment to calm the situation and switch to my last question “alright question 3 why don’t you want to talk to me properly? Is it because of the incident the other morning in your room?” she looks devastated I would bring it up, but I had to ask. “I don’t talk to people” “that is not an answer Bea, explain!” she closes her eyes and takes a calming breath “you have asked your questions, now let me out” “not until I get a real answer Bea, you talked with Chantelle the other day and that guy with the bike so why not me? Or Owen or my parents? We care about you!” “that’s just it I don’t want you or anyone to care about me! And I do not want to care about any of you! So stop asking your shrink questions and just stop trying!” I am in complete shock at her outburst I sit there watching her eyes fill with tears, face red with anger and arms thrown around to emphasise her shouting words. Mesmerised by her beautiful facial features exploding with emotion, so much so I neglected to notice my father’s car pull in next to mine, him exiting it and standing at Bea’s door observing her outburst first-hand. “Open the door” my father’s command even at 23 his stern voice makes me obey instantly. “Bea why don’t you go to your room and start on homework before dinner, I have to speak with my son privately for a moment” all the while his eyes don’t leave mine even to blink, oh s**t iv pissed him off too. He opens the car door for Bea to get out, stomp off in tears and then he gets in the seat she occupied seconds ago “dad I…” “Jake I thought of all people you would understand what that girl is going through” he is right I know exactly “yes I do which is w..” “were my instructions unclear the first night she got hear about giving her time?” he cuts me off once again “no father” “I know you are going to make an excellent psychiatrist Jake but some things you will learn from your own feelings and experience, you have been in her shoes” I run my hand through my hair and sigh in frustration knowing my father’s wisdom to be correct “I pushed too far too soon didn’t I?” “you could say that” we chuckle slightly “look son I am Shure there will be a time for some tuff love when it comes to Bea especially with that attitude of hers, but for now it’s about giving her time, space and understanding ”I can’t argue with him at all “yes father” I sit in the car alone for almost an hour going over every moment from me picking her up from school till now confirming I went too far too soon, “hey brother what you still doing in your car?” Owen taps on my window jolting my thoughts. “Get in let’s go for a drive before dinner I will fill you in on the day’s events.” I tell him everything that happened with Bea, my brother and I have no secrets.
