Nolan stood at the altar for a long time, clutching the phone without moving. The ring slipped from his hand and rolled to the edge of Katherine's gown. Katherine recovered first and bent to pick it up. "Nolan, Elena's just doing this because she's angry. She's terrified of unfamiliar places. She'd never truly leave on her own." Nolan knocked her hand aside. "Be quiet." Katherine's face went pale. The guests had begun to whisper. Some realized that the woman under the veil was not Elena, while others took pictures or quietly asked the Hayes family what was happening. Elena's mother hurried to her feet and urged the wedding officiant to continue. "Finish the ceremony first." Nolan ripped the boutonniere from his jacket. "Finish what? The bride is gone. There is no wedding to finish."
