3. No Communication

AXEL.

I followed her to the temple and she kept mute all through out the walk. I wanted to ask her the reason for her urgent call but she looked serious, like someone being controlled.

“The goddess Selene, We know that we have been doing many evil things but it is for the good of the pack and the forest for the people we kill are evil, you know why you have kept us ever since. Our Lady of peace! Our amiable goddess!” She said and her temple attendants poured powder on our hands. Which we held like gold, not allowing dust to touch it. As much as we were deadly killers, we did not forget the person who gave us such power and strength. We tried our best to obey whatever the goddess instructed Brooke to tell us.

“We hope that you give us the strength to honour and serve you just like our ancestors have done,” I said and bowed my head allowing the wind of the goddess to blow away the powder from our hands and produced a sweet smell... but it's not, this time around. It's the smell of burnt leaves.

Wierd!I turned to Brooke and she lit the incense stick that was in my hands. I dropped it on the alter as was expected of me during a ritual like this.

“You can get up now,” Brooke said and I got up from my kneeling position.

“Brooke! What is wrong?” I asked her worriedly.

“I don't know. It has been like this for a few days now and I tried to communicate with the goddess but she blocked me out.”

“This is trouble, Brooke. You can't just mope around and do nothing!” I told her as she locked to doors of the temple.

“Let's go back to the pack house, Axel. I don't feel safe here.” She replied placing her hands tiredly on the wooden door.

“How can you say such?” I scoffed. “In the presence of the goddess? You are not safe?”I was shocked.

Brooke has never been this worried and has always wanted to be in the temple. Infact, she was the one who argued that the temple must be brought to the pack house.

“I have had this feeling since I began the weekly rituals,” Brooke said still with that tired look.

“Then you'll ask the attendants if they have noticed anything weird,” I shrugged and she gave a sly smile.

“I knew you'll figure this out,” She smiled and walked briskly to the attendant quarters.

As we arrived at the ancient door that led to the home of the temple attendants and keepers. Brooke strolled onto a room, signalling me for me to wait back. I stood against the pillar, closest to the door, casually.

I was worried about the whole goddess and non-communication matter but I did not let my worry show on my face. I kept a straight face, as stern as ever.

Brooke came out from the room too soon and she was angry! I had never seen her angry like that. Her eyes turned blood red which was really weird.

“Brooke?”I asked as she came towards me.

“What's wrong?” I asked, obviously sharing in her worry.

“Follow me!” She snapped.

I followed her into the room that was nicely furnished. Every furniture I saw had a gold shimmer on it. The armchairs had a golden, Lacy, headrest and the bed's tailboard had was polished in a golden colour.

“Sir? Alpha Axel?” I heard someone call me and I jerked, surprised.

“Yes?” I asked in a questioning tone and turned to the lady in the room. She was nervous and Brooke even wanted her to be uncomfortable, more than she was already.

“Tell him what you told me!” She thundered.

“Um... Sir... I wanted Omega Brooke to find out, herself.” She jerked.

“Find out what?” I asked.

“The goddess told me that I should warn you guys not to go on that mission. The one to kill Mr.Sei.”

“What the...?” I asked.

“You could have just said so before now!” Brooke thundered. I had never seen her angry like this and now, her anger looks destructive. She picked up a throw pillow and threw it at the lady.

“b***h!” She spat with disgust.I patted her back.

“Brooke!” I said, my alpha aura rolling off me. It was meant to scare her, not to do something much worse than she had done to the poor girl.

“I'm the alpha here, Brooke!”

“She could have...,” She trailed off and sighed, taking deep breaths.

“Calm down! We need to find a way to communicate with the goddess, there is a big problem.” I said and she nodded slowly. I could see that she wasn't buying my idea and that didn't look good at all.

There was a big problem that I wasn't ready to let it go. Letting it go meant that I was leaving Mr.Sei's men to kill all the members of our pack because they had tracked us down.

“Sadie!!! Get to the temple, now.” Brooke said

“Yes ma,” She nodded and ran out of the room.She was looking battered and bruised which meant that Brooke had probably turtured her before she spilled out what she knew.

“We should kill her, don't you think?” Brooke said looking at the hallway as though a part of her was kept there.

“No! She can spill out some more secrets that she knows, for her to be able to communicate with the goddess...” I trailed off, expecting Brooke to know the rest but she just kept on thinking negative.

“But she can cause more harm...,” Brooke grumbled.

“She will cause more good than harm, period!!!,” I said and she went about brooding in the room which was distracting me.

I walked up to her and held her throat as tightly as I could,“If the pack is not more important than your selfish desires then I would be happy to throw you, not only out of the pack but out of this world!” I said.

She was terrified at my sudden outburst that she was dumbstruck even when I left her throat.

“Axel! Axel!” I heard Ivan's voice. I turned around to see him but I saw no one.“Axel! Are you there,” I heard the voice again and I realised, suddenly that he was speaking through a mind link.

'I'm here! What is it?' I asked through the mind link.

‘You shut me out.’ He said angrily.

'I'm sorry, I was somewhere important.' I said.

'Well... The men from Mr.Sei have an insider in the pack who has told them the hideout of our men. We need to be there with them so they don't get killed.' He said rushing his words.

'I don't give a flying f**k if they get killed.’I said through the mind link.

'But they will get information from the men and invade our pack.' He said and I thought about it.

'We will go in a week's time, for now, let them handle themselves. I've got a lot on my plate.' I snapped and blocked him out again.

“Alpha Axel! The b***h is back and she's got some good news,” Brooke hissed through her teeth and I wanted to slap her for calling the poor girl a b***h but I kept my cool waiting to hear the good news.

“Spill it,Sadie...,” I trailed off.

That name, Sadie.

“Were you the one that tried to escape last night?” I asked hoping she was not.

“Um... Yes, Sir,” She said and I flinched.Why the heck was she trying to escape if she has such important information with her.

“Why did you try to escape when you knew what the goddess told you was important,” I asked inquisitively.

“I was afraid, if I did not tell Brooke about it early then she was going to kill me or hand me over to you,” She said, her head still bowed so I would not see her face but Brooke raised her jaw up, painfully.

“Why did you not tell her early enough then, if you knew the consequences?” I asked again.

Usually, I was not inquisitive about things like this but this girl just had an aura that made me want to know everything about her. It felt like she was hiding something that would hinder the pack in a way.

“I got to know about the consequences the day before I escaped,” She said and I scattered my wavy blonde hair with my hands nervously.

“Can you get in the temple and do the ritual, now, so we can know why she didn't want us to go on the mission,” I told her and slumped on the couch. I was drowsy already and it was just 10:09, from the time on my phone.

We performed a quick ritual and Brooke turned excitedly to me.

“Its just that she hates defeat and we lost the 'fight' for Mr. Sei's properties,” She replied wearing a sad face.

“Oh! Don't give me that look, I have an idea,” I scolded and paused, signalling Sadie to go home to her adopted parents.

“Hmmph... We are going back to Seattle,” I said finally.

“Not a bad idea!” She shrugged happily.

“Don't you get it? We are going there to fight Mr.Sei and his men,” I explained smacking my forehead, disappointed.

“Again???” She bit her lower lip, obviously devastated.

“Yes. We can't let them get closer. They are already in New York and will get to Brooklyn soon.”

I left the temple and pulled off my regalia, draping it on the headrest of a couch in her living room.

“Just keep in touch, don't block anyone out,” She told me.

I nodded and got out of the apartment and the packhouse, hopping on the seat of my motor bike, facing it out of the city, onto the border of the pack.

No footprints. No paw prints. No sign of humans or anyone.

My pack is safe. For now, at least.

I mindlinked Ivan,“Bring me my car, the wagon,” I told him.

“Why? What about the others? The car is battered, no one will want to see an alpha...” I cut him off, using my alpha tone on him.

“Just bring it,” I growled and added,“I’m at the border, the one to the left of the river.”I sighed.

The wagon was my first car, the car I was sleeping in for the first six months I arrived in this city. The moon goddess protected me in that car, I met my successful life with that car so abandoning it was not an option.

Hours later, we came back from the river side after capturing some men of Mr. Sei and interviewing them vigorously. Their boss was dead and they only wanted to know the people that killed the heartless man and thank them. I was curious at first, why did they want to thank us?

Then they explained that Mr. Sei held them and their families captive. We sent men out to get the other people from Mr. Sei's home but at the end of the day, we had a hundred men, now part of our pack... all captured in a day.

Whew!
