Lana POV The fluorescent lights above hummed faintly as I blinked myself awake, my body wrapped in layers of stiff hospital linen. The scent of antiseptic stung my nose, and for a second, I couldn’t remember where I was. Then it hit me—the lake. The darkness. The cold. The hands that pulled me from the water. Julian. My eyes flickered toward the window. Daylight streamed through slits in the blinds. I turned my head slowly. The room was empty. Quiet. I hated the quiet. It made room for the questions. Who wrote the note that lured me to the lake? Who knew I couldn’t swim? Was it a sick prank? A warning? Or something far darker? I inhaled slowly. My chest ached, and there was a tightness in my throat that made it hard to breathe deeply. A nurse had come in earlier to check my vitals.
