Chapter 11: After The Proposal
The ring on Ayesha's finger felt heavy. Real.
The gala was over. Papers were signed. Not a contract this time. A marriage certificate.
Zayan drove them home in silence.
"So," Ayesha finally said. "What now?"
Zayan pulled over. He turned to her. "Now we figure it out. For real."
That night was different. No separate rooms. No cold shoulder.
He made her tea when she couldn't sleep. He asked about her day. He laughed at her jokes.
For the first time, the Khan mansion felt like a home.
But happiness never lasts long.
Next morning, Zayan's phone rang at 5am. His face went pale.
"What do you mean she's back?" he shouted.
Ayesha woke up. "Who's back?"
Zayan looked at her. His eyes were full of pain. "My ex-fiancee. Sophia. She's back from London. And she's not happy about us."
Ayesha's heart dropped. "I thought you said you didn't love her."
"I don't," Zayan said quickly. "But she knows things. About my father. About the company. She can ruin us, Ayesha."
He ran a hand through his hair. "I need to go to the office. Don't leave the house today. Please."
He kissed her forehead and ran out.
Ayesha stood there in his big shirt, holding her tea, watching the door close.
Real marriage was starting. And so were the real problems.
