Three days after the delicate figure woke up, Xue Lin began learning to live with the tall man and teaching her husband how to survive in the forest. Today, she decided to take him fishing, as she was tired of eating wild fruits for the past few days, even though they were good for both of them.
"Ah Yang, do you want to eat fish?" Xue Lin asked, smiling.
Yang Jin’s eyes lit up as he eagerly nodded. "I do!"
Seeing her husband’s enthusiasm, Xue Lin’s smile widened. However, she now needed to figure out how to catch the fish.
{You don’t need tools for that. You have magic powers, don’t you?} The glowing orb floating beside her interrupted.
The system had a point—she should learn how to use her powers effectively. With a resigned sigh, Xue Lin agreed. The problem was, she didn’t really know how to use magic. She wasn’t exactly a fantasy novel enthusiast.
{Don’t worry, Host. I can guide you. Just follow my instructions, and you’ll catch fish for sure.}
‘Alright, I’ll follow your instructions,’ she thought as she led Yang Jin to a nearby stream. The crystal-clear water revealed a multitude of fish swimming gracefully. Just a little further downstream was a picturesque waterfall cascading onto rocks below.
“Wife, are we going to catch fish here?” the tall man asked curiously.
“Yes, fish live in water, don’t they? Look, there are so many of them swimming in the stream!”
{Host, focus your mind and imagine a fishing rod. It will take quite a bit of energy, so hang in there.} The system warned her to conserve energy. Xue Lin immediately did as instructed, closing her eyes to focus and visualize a fishing rod.
Yang Jin, standing quietly nearby, didn’t dare to make a sound. He could feel the strange aura radiating from her.

Two hours later, Xue Lin finally managed to conjure a fishing rod. It was translucent, glowing faintly with magical energy. She began using it to fish in the stream. By the time she finished, she nearly collapsed from exhaustion, if not for Yang Jin catching her just in time.
“Wife, are you alright?” the tall man asked worriedly, seeing her pale face.
“Let me rest for a bit,” she replied weakly, sitting down to meditate. The system had told her that nature itself was her source of power, and being surrounded by it allowed her to recover quickly. Once her energy was restored, she threaded the fish together and headed back to their hut with Yang Jin.
“Wait here while I prepare the food,” Xue Lin said.
“Do you need help?” Yang Jin asked, only for her to wave him off. She had learned the hard way in the past few days that Yang Jin and the kitchen didn’t mix well. She didn’t want to repair the kitchen again.
Xue Lin entered the rustic kitchen. It wasn’t modern, but it had basic tools—an earthen stove, pots, pans, and a rice barrel that the system had prepared.
“What should I make for dinner?” she wondered aloud as she began preparing rice. She grabbed two pots, scooped rice into them, and washed it thoroughly before setting it on the stove to cook.
“Good thing I learned how to cook rice during my scouting days. Otherwise, cooking like this would’ve been a disaster. Grandma taught me well,” she muttered while stirring the rice to prevent it from sticking. She periodically checked if the rice was cooked by tasting it, and when it was done, she drained the excess water and set it aside.
Turning her attention to the fish, she decided to grill two, make a soup with two more, and preserve the last one using her magic to keep it fresh.
{You’re quite skilled at cooking, Host,} the glowing orb commented.
‘I used to help Grandma cook often,’ Xue Lin replied. She had grown up in a rural area where modernization hadn’t yet reached. She’d learned survival skills like cooking and building fires from her grandmother.
{You’ve changed a lot since your teenage years. Back then, you were quite the troublemaker.}
Xue Lin paused, startled. The system had access to her entire past. She had been a bit wild in her younger days, often getting into fights and narrowly avoiding serious injuries.
“Wife.”
“What is it?” she asked, turning to see Yang Jin peeking shyly around the doorway.
“I’m hungry. The smell of your cooking reached outside, so I came to check,” he said, swallowing hard as his stomach growled.
“It’s almost ready. Just wait for the rice to finish cooking,” Xue Lin replied with a gentle smile.
Yang Jin nodded and waited patiently. Xue Lin glanced at him fondly, thinking that despite his strong build and fierce appearance, he was surprisingly innocent and endearing.
Sigh... I wonder how the soldiers are doing. Are they missing me?
