*PHOEBE'S POV*
With my mission in mind, I swiftly went to the bathroom and freshened up. I had to be early for breakfast and then head for the training grounds. Joana hasn't checked on me and I am not bothered by it, especially since I've got my own share of problems to deal with.
I combed my blue black hair into one at the top of my head and ran down the stairs. A few pack members were already seated in the large dining room and I scanned the room looking for that one particular man.
He wasn't there, neither was Joana nor Chad. Some of the guys who were eating were checking me out and I grinned, knowing that I am one foxy chick. I walked to the buffet that the omegas had prepared and shared myself a nice breakfast and sat beside a group of girls.
One of them eyed me keenly and snickered.
"Good morning." I ignored all their looks and gulped down my meal because I had to catch that sneaky big Alpha.
"You are new here?" The red-haired one asked.
Duh! Keke thought that she was not the smartest at this table. "I'm just visiting." I managed to say sweetly.
"She's the Gamma Female's cousin or something like that." The blonde one said.
"Yeah, that's me. So, what are your names? I'm Phoebe." I exuded the brightest personality, looking at each female with enthusiasm.
"I'm Warrior Nicole," the blonde one stated and did the introductions and gesticulations. "Red here is Warrior Kimona, and Grace, our cheeky brunette, is assistant to our pack's doctor."
"Great!" Now I have some warrior friends to lead me to the training grounds. I looked around the room once more, vetting my surroundings. "Have you seen the Alpha since morning?"
They all stopped chewing with their eyes dead on me. Hoping this explanation would suffice, I quickly said "I'm a guest and I was promised that he would welcome me. So, where is he?"
Grace cleared her throat before speaking, "Sorry but he's left for overseas business this morning. Beta Dwayne is in charge but we could take you to him."
"Beta Dwayne was supposed to go with the Alpha," Kimona revealed, with her mouth full of scrambled eggs.
Keke whined. I felt the same way. Why didn't he tell us he was leaving? What am I supposed to do now? "When will he be returning?"
Again, I got those stares on me as though I was treading into unwanted territory. I smiled at the girls and waited for an answer. He was my man and I wasn't afraid to state my claim, but I didn't want to come off as boasting, especially when I was being neglected. Many questions surfaced that I wanted answers for, and I know if I do ask these girls, they would jump to all types of conclusions.
It seemed like Kimona and Grace had a thing for Hudson. Keke despised that, but we can't stop people from caring or lusting after others.
"Only the Beta or Gamma would know that. Aren't you leaving soon?" Kimona threw at me.
"Maybe," I ate the last piece of scrambled egg off my plate. "I'm on vacation."
Grace beamed up and cheered. "We should take you out. Let's go clubbing."
"Or shopping." Kimona rakes her eyes over my attire. Nicole nudges her to behave.
"It's okay. " b***h, I'm loaded, is what I really wanted to say, but I won't join the immaturity train. "I should get going."
Excusing myself, I washed my dish before putting the plate away. They kept observing me and I waved farewell before leaving the room. I took my phone out of my pocket to call that cousin of mine, which was futile.
I followed behind some other warriors that I overheard talking, and that's how I got to the training rounds. Kimona and Nicole were not far behind me. Chad greeted me and I glared at Joana who ignore how mad I was at her.
"Everyone grab yourselves a partner and let's do some sparring. Follow my example of defense and practice with your partners." Chad hollered after blowing his whistle with the clipboard in his right hand.
I sparred with Kimona, and beat her in all the rounds. Obviously, this made enemies out of them. I'm not bothered.
As I went to get some water, two of the warriors came to my side to get their own. I smiled and inspected both of them. They were cute but not like my Alpha.
"You are pretty good." Mr. Tall, dark and handsome said to me. "I'm Brian."
"Thanks Brian. I train hard, so I know it's paying off." I commented. The guy next to him said nothing. I threw the empty bottle in the trash can and walked over to Chad.
"Don't pretend like you haven't found some company." Joana retorted, "You always know how to be entertained."
"I came here for you, remember?" I accused, "The least you could do is check on me and let me know where you are at times." I pulled her by the shoulder. "Do you see those two over there? They hate my guts."
Chad chuckled, "They are always like that, so don't take offense."
"Any female would be intimidated by you." Joana added, "Make friends and be nice."
I didn't want them as my friends. They were too snobbish. Chad was using a towel to dry the sweat from Joana's forehead and she was enjoying the attention.
"So, Chad..." I probed him, "When does the Alpha get back?"
His questioning face told me that he was curious about my interest, so I made up a lie. "I think that I might have offended him yesterday and I wanted to apologize so that my two weeks here can be pleasant."
It was Joana who had to ask, "What did you do?" with her hands akimbo.
"It's too embarrassing that I don't want to repeat it," I snapped.
Chad relaxed and hugged Joana at the waist. "He's out for four weeks. There's an Alpha convention plus other business related issues. His father is in charge until he returns. Beta Dwayne went with him."
My mouth dropped into an 'O' shape as the shock of his words carved into my mind for processing. Are you kidding me at this point? I'm here for two weeks and by the time he returns, I would be home, back in my pack. Ugh!
