I bolted towards the hall, but the door slammed shut before I could reach it. Panic surged through me as I pounded on the door. "Mom! Dad!" I shouted, but my voice echoed back at me from the empty walls. The silence that followed was unnerving, almost deafening. My heart raced, thudding so loudly I thought it might burst out of my chest.Suddenly, the lights went out completely. I was plunged into total darkness, the only sound my ragged breathing. I fumbled for my phone in my pocket, praying that it had enough battery left to provide some light. As I pulled it out, my fingers trembled so badly that I nearly dropped it.Just as I switched on the flashlight, I heard footsteps. Slow, deliberate, and getting closer. I turned the light towards the sound, expecting to see my parents—or even that horrifying creature from my dream—but there was nothing. Only the empty hallway, stretching out in front of me like a tunnel of nightmares."Hello?" My voice came out shaky, barely a whisper. "Is anyone there?"No answer. But the footsteps continued, now right behind me.I spun around, the flashlight beam darting wildly across the walls. Still, there was nothing. My breath came in short gasps as fear tightened its grip on me.Then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw it—movement, a shadow slithering along the wall. My heart stopped as I realized that the shadow wasn’t just a trick of the light. It was alive, and it was coming straight at me.The shadow elongated, twisting and writhing as it grew taller, darker, more menacing. I backed away, my hands shaking so badly that I could barely hold the phone steady. As the shadow closed in, it began to take shape—those familiar sharp claws, the grotesque mouth dripping with saliva, and the long, lashing tongue. It was the creature from my nightmare, but this time, it wasn’t a dream.I let out a scream that echoed through the house, but no one answered. The creature lunged at me, and I turned to run, my feet slipping on the polished floor. I sprinted down the hallway, adrenaline propelling me forward, but the shadowy figure was faster. I could feel its icy breath on the back of my neck, its claws reaching out to grab me.Desperate, I ducked into the first room I found—my parents' bedroom—and slammed the door shut behind me. I locked it, pressing my back against the door as if that alone could keep the monster out. My chest heaved with each breath, and I strained to hear any sound from the other side. Silence. Then, a faint scratching at the door, followed by a low growl.“Please… Please go away…” I whispered, closing my eyes as tears welled up.Suddenly, the scratching stopped. The silence that followed was even more terrifying. I stayed frozen in place, waiting, hoping the nightmare would end. But then, the door handle slowly began to turn.“No, no, no!” I pressed harder against the door, but it was no use. The handle clicked, and the door creaked open an inch, then another. Through the narrow gap, I could see a single red eye glaring at me.I bolted for the closet, diving inside and pulling the door shut just as the bedroom door swung wide open. I squeezed myself into the back of the closet, hiding behind a row of hanging clothes. My heart pounded in my ears as I listened to the heavy footsteps enter the room.I held my breath, praying it wouldn’t find me. The footsteps stopped right outside the closet door. I bit my lip to keep from crying out as the creature sniffed the air, growling softly. The closet door creaked as the handle began to turn. I shut my eyes, bracing for the worst.Suddenly, a loud crash echoed through the room, followed by the sound of footsteps running away. I opened my eyes just in time to hear someone yell from downstairs, “Who’s making all that noise?”It was Dad’s voice. He was home! I nearly cried out in relief, but then I remembered the creature. What if it attacked him? I had to warn him.Gathering my courage, I slowly inched the closet door open. The room was empty, but I could still feel the creature’s presence, lurking somewhere nearby. I took a deep breath and made a dash for the stairs, hoping to reach Dad before it did.I flew down the stairs, calling out, “Dad! Mom! Watch out, there’s something in the house!”As I reached the bottom, I saw my parents standing in the living room, both looking at me with wide eyes. “What’s going on?” Mom asked, alarmed.“There’s a monster upstairs! It tried to—” I stopped mid-sentence as I saw something that made my blood run cold. Behind my parents, the creature stood in the corner of the room, grinning at me with its hideous mouth.“Dad, behind you!” I screamed. My dad turned around, and for a second, I thought he was going to see the creature. But when he looked back at me, he just frowned. “There’s nothing there. What are you talking about?”“What? It’s right there!” I pointed frantically at the corner, but the creature was gone. Had I imagined it? No, I couldn’t have. It was real—I had seen it, felt it, almost been caught by it!Mom shook her head, looking at me with concern. “You’re not making any sense. Maybe you should lie down. You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”I felt a pang of doubt. Could it have been a hallucination? No, it couldn’t be. I knew what I saw.“Mom, Dad, please believe me!” I pleaded, tears in my eyes. But they just exchanged worried glances.Suddenly, I felt something cold and slimy brush against my ankle. I looked down and saw a shadow creeping along the floor, wrapping itself around my leg. I gasped, trying to pull away, but the shadow tightened its grip, yanking me backward.“Help me!” I screamed, but before my parents could react, I was dragged into the darkness. to be continued..
