CHAPTER 5: A NEW BEGINNING

1033 Words
After eating, I sat in stunned silence, my mind racing with questions. What does she mean I helped her once? Why can't I remember her face at all? I look at her, searching for answers, and she smiles, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "You don't remember me, do you?" she asks, her voice gentle. I shook my head, feeling a sense of confusion. "No, I don't," I admitted. The old woman nods, her expression serious. "That's okay, child," she says. "You were very kind to me a few years ago. Your kindness saved my life" I'm taken aback, my eyes widening in surprise. "I did?" I ask, my voice barely above a whisper. The old woman nods, a smile spreading across her face. "Yes, you did," she says. "I was visiting your pack, and one night, I was hit by a car. You found me, and you took me to the hospital. You saved my life, Yvonne." I'm stunned, my mind reeling with memories. I finally remember that night, I remember finding her, but I never knew what happened to her after that. "Why didn't you tell me?" I ask, feeling a sense of wonder. The old woman chuckles, her eyes twinkling. "You didn't give me a chance," she says. "You left before I could even thank you. But I've been keeping an eye on you, Yvonne. I've been watching you from afar, and I have to say, I'm impressed." I feel a sense of pride, a sense of accomplishment. No one has ever been proud of me before, no one has ever seen anything good in me. "Who are you?" I ask, my voice filled with curiosity. The old woman smiles, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "My name is Alice," she says. "And I'm an elder of the Sapphire Pack." I'm taken aback, my eyes widening in surprise. The Sapphire Pack is one of the most powerful packs in the country, and I'm sitting in front of one of its elders. Alice nods, her expression serious. "I know your pack doesn't treat you well, Yvonne," she says. "But I want you to know that you have a place here, with us. We'll take care of you, we'll support you, and we'll help you achieve your dreams." I feel a sense of hope, a sense of excitement. Could this really be my chance to start over, to leave my past behind and start fresh? As I sit in silence, my mind racing with questions, I feel a whirlwind of emotions swirling inside me. I'm confused, unsure of if I should just blindly trust this woman. Although the more I interacted and studied, her sense that she was actually genuine. I had no idea that my actions that night had such a profound impact on someone's life. I had simply done what I thought was right, what anyone would have done in that situation. But hearing her talk about it, I realized that it was more than just a simple act of kindness. It was a turning point, a moment that changed the course of her life. As I listen to her words, I feel a sense of pride swelling up inside me. I'm proud of myself for taking action that night, for being brave enough to help someone in need. I'm also proud of the person I'm becoming, the person who is capable of making a difference in someone's life. But alongside the pride, I also feel a sense of sadness. I think about all the times I've been belittled, all the times I've been made to feel like I'm nothing. I think about the pack, about how they've treated me like a slave, like a piece of property. And I realize that I've been living in a state of constant fear, always walking on eggshells, never knowing when the next blow will come. As Alice offers me a place in the Sapphire Pack, I feel a sense of hope rising up inside me. It's a fragile hope, one that's been battered and bruised by the experiences of my past. But it's there, nonetheless, a tiny spark that refuses to be extinguished. I think about all the possibilities, all the things I could achieve with the Sapphire Pack's support. I think about becoming a doctor, about helping others, about making a difference in the world. And I feel a sense of excitement, a sense of anticipation. But I'm also scared. I'm scared of leaving behind the only life I've ever known, scared of venturing into the unknown. I'm scared of failing, of not being good enough. And I'm scared of being hurt again, of being rejected and belittled. I think about my child, about the future I want to build for them. I think about the kind of mother I want to be, the kind of person I want to be. And I know that I have to take this chance, I have to seize this opportunity. "What do you mean by a place in your pack?" I asked, my voice filled with curiosity. Alice smiles, her eyes twinkling. "I mean that we'll give you a home, Yvonne," she says. "We'll give you a family, and we'll support you in whatever you want to do. You want to be a doctor? We'll help you achieve that dream. You want to be a scientist? We'll support you every step of the way." I feel a sense of wonder, a sense of awe. No one has ever offered me anything like this before. No one has ever believed in me like this before. "I'll do it," I said, determination filling my voice. "I'll join your pack, and I'll work hard to achieve my dreams." Alice smiles, her eyes shining with tears. "Welcome to the Sapphire Pack, Yvonne," she says. "We're glad to have you." I feel a sense of pride, a sense of belonging. For the first time in my life, I feel like I'm part of something bigger than myself. I feel like I'm home. Alice nods, her expression serious. "Now, let's get started," she says. "We have a lot of work to do, and not a lot of time to waste."
