Chapter 1 I didn’t recognise the hotel room I was in, the bedside lamp pooled across the rumpled sheets of one bed, while the other remained untouched, its crisp linens untouched. The air was thick with the scent of cheap whiskey and something else, something electric. I sat on the edge of the opposite bed, my legs crossed at the ankle, my fingers tracing the rim of my glass with fake confidence cause my body shook with nerves. His gaze lingered on her, heavy and needy, tracing the curve of my collarbone where my blouse dipped just low enough to tease. I could feel it like a physical touch, the way his eyes darkened when they flicked up to meet mine, just for a second, before sliding away again, as if he were afraid of what he’d find there.
