VIOLIN'S POV
“What do you mean you want to marry her?” I asked panting profusely in anger and disgust.
“C’mon cupcake, you're not a child anymore, it's been years since your mother passed on and I've been longing for a companion for a while now. I’ve been seeing Fiona for a while and I feel it's time I give love another chance. I'm sure you two will get along quite well if you give it a chance.”
I stared at my father as he blurted out those words, unable to believe what I've just heard.
Here I was hoping that our once close relationship when my mom was still alife might somehow be rekindled not knowing that he was only concerned about making his own life comfortable.
“I can’t believe you dad, then again, it's been this way for a while, I guess my congratulations are in order then, go ahead and do as you please,” I said to him as I turned and walked out of the room ignoring his calls.
Here I am standing in front of my mirror, fighting the urge to forget the conversation I've just had with my father when that sharp pain sprung up again.
This time I slowly peeled off my gown to give me a better view.
“Isssshhh!” I cried out in pain. The strange marks were evident, not only on my neck but also around my waist.
“Where did I get this?” I pondered.
Yuck! It couldn't have been……..
My thoughts were cut off as my mind wandered back to my experience with the stranger from the other night.
Oh what’s his name again? Oufff! Sorry, I just remembered he never told me.
Well then violin, you just have to figure out a way to treat this weird pain. Speaking of pain, my thoughts drifted yet again to the loss of my mother, I wish she was still here with me.
I really do miss her. I remember vividly on my fourteenth birthday, father was not in town, was on a work trip as usual and had probably forgotten my birthday, an act of his i had gotten used to, ever since my twelvth birthday.
I sat in my room and sulked the whole time not knowing mom had gathered my friends and planned what i considered the best birthday party till date.
She comforted and reminded me of how important and cherished I am to her.
The knock on my door, disrupted me from my thoughts.
I quickly put my gown back on and turned towards the door, awaiting my father’s appearance, but to my surprise, Fiona walked in and stood in front of the door arm-crossed, with a smile I could easily detect was a fake one.
“The audacity though…” I muttered under my breath.
“What do you want Fiona?” I asked impatiently.
“Hello to you too, Violin, your dad said I could find you here.”
“Well, you are not welcome here.”
“I know that, but I should at least be given a chance to try and be friends since we would be family soon.”
“You might be marrying my dad but you must be a joker if you think I would ever accept you as my family.”
“Oh, come off it violin, don't make this difficult, all I'm trying to do is to extend to you the undying love I have for your father, why can't you just give me a chance, how difficult can that be?”
I was just about to say something before the door swung open and my father walked in wearing a weird smile.
“Everything okay?” He asked looking from Fiona to me.
“Everything is fine honey, I was just telling Violin how much I couldn't wait for us to finally be one family,” She said, reaching out to hold his hand while flashing me the fake smile she wore when she came into the room.
I really do not get it. Why exactly does my dad not see beneath this woman?
“That's good to know, I'm so glad you both are getting along.”
It was then I noticed the mini suitcase in his hand, one he occasionally took along with him on his work trips.
I looked down at the suitcase and up to his face giving him a knowing frown.
“Dad?”
He immediately read through my expression. “Uhmm, cupcake, I got an urgent call, apparently there was an attack in the neighboring town and the mayor’s were called together for a meeting cause the attack seems to have been spreading across other towns. Something like wild animal attacks.”
“But dad, you just got back three nights ago and now you're are leaving for another supposed work trip?”
“I know cupcake, but you know duty calls and I have to answer. Don't worry, Fiona has promised to watch you and take care of anything you need, incase you can't reach me.”
“Watch me? I'm not a child dad, I don't need anyone to watch me.”
“I just need my father,” This I said to myself, unable to mutter those words to him.
“Well, it's either that or go everywhere with your bodyguard whom you fired without my consent.”
He said to me, his voice now firm.
I didn't say a word and even when he came over and kissed me on my cheeks as usual, I still didn't utter a word, I silently watched him leave the room and waited for Fiona to follow behind before turning the lock to my room.
Not letting that witch spend even another second with me.
I muttered and slumped back into my bed dozing off almost immediately. The weeks went by swiftly without me even noticing.
I wasn't one to keep friends ,not because I don't need one but because my over-protective and hardly present father chased them all away from my life with his detective question.
Luckily, I have a job that I love and I've kept myself buried into my work ever since I got off college.
So it's safe to say my job is my only companion.
It's been days since I visited a bar or even take liquor cause for some reasons best known to my body, l've been feeling weird anytime I perceive alcohol or a certain smell of bormist.
This has gone on for a while and it was when I came down with fever that I decided I was going to check what's wrong with me.
The following evening.....I strolled just outside the house to ease myself of this awkward feeling when a familiar scent rented the air.
"That cologne! I know it."
Then a sudden voice echoed from behind, "Hey club girl.”
