The ballroom was freezing.
I could feel 200 pairs of eyes on me as I walked toward him. My mate. Alpha Adrian Blackwood.
Tonight was supposed to be the night the Moon Goddess blessed us. The night our bond sealed forever.
Instead, Adrian was looking at someone else.
Alvan. The Beta’s daughter. In a white dress. Pregnant.
"Cloe Grande," Adrian's voice boomed through the silent hall. His golden eyes didn't even flicker when they landed on me. "I, Alpha Adrian Blackwood, reject you as my mate and future Luna."
The words hit like silver bullets.
My knees buckled. The mating mark on my neck burned, then went cold. Dead.
Snickers. Whispers. Laughter.
"Pathetic," someone hissed. "She thought an Alpha would choose her? A nobody?"
I wasn't a nobody. Not anymore.
But I couldn't tell them that. Not with the secret burning inside me.
A secret I found out 3 minutes ago.
I pressed a hand to my stomach, and sighed
Adrian's rejection just condemned his own heir.
I lifted my chin, wiped the tear off my cheek, and ran.
Out of the pack house. Out of his life.
Out to build an empire he would regret ever dismissing. Something stronger than he ever imagine.
