The pen felt heavy in my hand. $10 million. Vice CEO. A house. And one year of pretending to be his wife. "Why?" I asked, not looking at him. "Why now?" Adrian knelt beside my chair. His scent wrapped around me. Mate. Still mine after 4 years. "Because I saw Adrien defend Adrienne from bullies last week," he whispered. "He said 'My daddy would kill you.' But he doesn't have a daddy." His voice broke. "Because Adrienne drew a picture of our family. And she left the daddy spot empty." I looked at the twins. They were watching us from the doorway. Hope in their eyes. My throat hurt. "One year," I said. "That's it." I signed. Cloe Grande. The moment the ink dried, Adrian exhaled like he'd been holding his breath for years. "Thank you," he breathed. "Don't thank me," I snapped. "This is for them." He reached for my hand. I pulled away. "Rules," I said. "No touching. No kissing. No mate bond." "Understood," he nodded. But when Adrien grabbed his hand and Adrienne grabbed mine... And we walked out together as a family of four... The lie already felt too real.
