The breaking point

1113 Words
Soraya The moment Jace stepped into her apartment, the air thickened. She wanted to scream at him to leave, to shut the door and forget this ever happened. But there he was—standing there like he belonged, his presence filling the space with the heat of a storm. “I told you,” she said, her voice sharp but betraying the hesitation she felt. “You’re not welcome here.” Jace didn’t respond immediately. He didn’t have to. His eyes, intense and unwavering, said more than words ever could. He was a force of nature, and for some reason, she couldn’t bring herself to push him away. He stepped closer, ignoring the tension that clung to the room. Soraya’s heart raced, a chaotic rhythm she couldn’t silence. “I’m not leaving,” he said, his voice low and dangerous. Her body tensed. She crossed her arms, trying to reclaim some semblance of control over the situation. “You think you can just walk in here, whenever you want? You think I’ll just bend to whatever you want?” Jace's lips twitched, a hint of amusement in his gaze. “I think you already have.” Soraya’s breath caught, but she refused to acknowledge the truth in his words. She couldn’t. Not after everything she had been through to get to this point. “I don’t need you,” she spat, stepping back, keeping distance between them. She needed to maintain control. To show him that she didn’t care. That he was nothing. “Then why am I still here?” Jace pressed, his voice laced with amusement. “Why are you standing so close to me, if you don’t need me?” She cursed under her breath. He was right. No matter how much she fought against it, she could feel it—the pull between them. But she wasn’t ready to admit that to herself. Without thinking, Soraya stepped toward him, anger flaring. “You think you know me? You have no idea what I’m capable of.” Jace didn’t flinch, his gaze only growing more intense. He was a wild storm, and Soraya couldn’t escape the force of it. He closed the gap between them, standing so close now that she could feel the heat radiating from his body. “You’re right,” Jace said softly, “I don’t know you. But I want to. I want to see how far you’ll go, Soraya. I want to see how much of you I can break.” Her breath hitched. His words sank into her skin like a needle, piercing her defenses. She should have pushed him away, should have told him to leave, but instead, she found herself standing there, unable to move. To speak. To do anything but feel. “I won’t let you control me,” she whispered, her voice trembling despite herself. “Who says I want to control you?” Jace replied, a dark smile curling on his lips. “I just want to see how far you’ll go to fight it.” For a moment, neither of them moved. It was as if the world had frozen around them. But in that stillness, Soraya felt something shift. Something dangerous. Something she didn’t want to admit. And before she could stop herself, she closed the gap between them, pressing her lips to his in a kiss fueled by something far darker than she could have imagined. --- Jace The kiss was everything he’d been waiting for. Soraya fought it, but he knew she couldn’t resist. There was no escaping the way they were drawn to each other, like magnets pulled together by something primal, something they both tried to deny. He let his hands find her waist, pulling her closer, feeling the heat of her body against his. She was like fire, a burning thing that threatened to consume him. And he welcomed it. Every inch of her. But even as their lips moved together, something in the back of his mind kept whispering that this wasn’t right. That he shouldn’t be doing this. That he was making things worse. He pulled away for a moment, his breath heavy. “Why are you fighting it?” Her eyes burned with something fierce, something dangerous. “Because I’m not weak, Jace,” she spat. “I don’t need you. I never did.” But her voice was shaking. And Jace saw the crack in her armor. She could lie all she wanted, but she couldn’t fool him. He knew what this was. What it had always been. “I don’t need you either,” he said, his voice low, almost teasing. “But I can’t stay away from you.” Soraya’s eyes narrowed. She pushed against his chest, but the force was weak—just a hint of resistance. Her body betrayed her again. “You’re wasting your time,” she snapped, trying to pull away. Jace wasn’t having it. He grabbed her wrist, holding it firmly. “Am I? Or is this exactly what you want, deep down?” The way her body tensed, the way her breath hitched, told him everything he needed to know. She was just as hooked as he was. “I’m not going anywhere,” Jace said softly, his voice firm. “And neither are you.” Soraya didn’t respond. She didn’t need to. Her silence spoke volumes. And for the first time since meeting her, Jace felt like he was on the edge of something real. --- Soraya It was a battle of wills, and Soraya had no idea who would win. She couldn’t control herself around Jace, and the realization sent a sharp pang through her chest. She couldn’t lose. Not like this. Not to him. She yanked her wrist free, stepping back, her mind racing. “You think this is over?” she asked, her voice shaking but resolute. “You think you can just waltz in here and make me bend to you?” Jace’s gaze darkened. “You’re already bending, Soraya. You just don’t know it yet.” Her heart pounded in her chest, and she wanted to scream. To fight him. But the truth was, she didn’t know how much longer she could keep this up. --- The air between them was thick with unspoken words, a storm that neither of them was ready to face. Jace was a problem, one she hadn’t solved and one she didn’t know how to. But no matter how hard she fought, she couldn’t erase the fact that he was always there, pulling her in further. And this time, she wasn’t sure if she wanted to break free. -
