Chapter 1- The Drive Home

1078 Words
Sorry, this chapter is short, it's just a warm-up chapter for me to start with, the next update will be soon :) Love you all. Enjoy.  Three years later (Present Time) Third-person  Hades was cursed to be tormented; this was something he was sure of. In the past, he was cursed to never have a mate, and now he has one but was cursed to never find her. It has been three years since Selene granted him his wish to have a mate, and he has been looking for her ever since, day in, day out.  He started out at the Shadow Lord pack, that was run by Alpha Aries and Ariel. The pack started out at Arizona where their main packhouse was located, then he moved on to New Mexico, followed by Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, up to Montana.  Hades then went east from there to Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska taking a full round trip all over the US, going from state to state, from Florida to Carolina, NYC, even Maine which was the furthest north.  He was coming back from Washington up north, to Oregon, Nevada, and California, with renewed hope, because these were his last stops before he gives up on the US and starts looking for her in another country.  He cruised through the Pacific Coast Highway, 6 hours from Washington DC to Oregon in his glossy, black, cabriolet, 1958 Porche, 356 speedster.  He sank into his car seat further and rested his arm on the window as he ran his hand through his hair, the wind following the same path as his fingers. He knew he didn't have to drive to move from city to city or state to state, but he felt like it served his purpose more. He didn't know if his mate was a werewolf,  witch, vampire, or even a human. This way he could make sure that he was seen as he strolled into whatever town he passed through.  His mind was swarmed with all scenarios that could happen. What would happen if he found her? What would happen if he didn't? Would she recognise him? Would she accept or reject him? Would Selene be so cruel to give him his one and true wish, only to take it away? Would he feel the bond like the wolves do? Would he even recognise her at all? What if she was in one of the other states and he didn't know her? He decided that overthinking wasn’t going to do him any good but put him in a bad mood. He wanted to be in the best mood when he met her. He wanted to be appealing, smooth, funny, and considerate. These were some pointers Ariel gave him multiple times before he mocked her for being too cheesy. He knew deep down that he could be a grump it was something he couldn’t change regardless of the years. He tried to, in the past, when he had held Persephone captive. He could admit that wasn’t the best method to woo her, but it was the only way he knew how. And she did love him at some point, something inside him knew that it wasn’t all a lie, not entirely. They took her away from him, Theseus, Peirithous, and Hercules. Peirithous had plotted to descend to the underworld one day with the help of Theseus, to kidnap Persephone and take her back to earth to be his wife. Hades later found out that she had planned this with them all along because she couldn’t handle staying captive forever in The Underworld, she claimed to have tried to love him but couldn't, even with the curse of the pomegranate seeds. But he had a plan to fight them, he invited both Theseus and Peirithous to sit down for a drink, and when they sat, the stone seats entrapped and enveloped their naked flesh, imprisoning them as well. And he thought that was the end of it, but Hercules came down to save his friends and took Persephone with him. They even had a very ancient witch break the bond that the pomegranate seeds had forged between them. By chanting these words: La candidat au somme la toxique cantus, with the blood of Hades that Hercules obtained from the fight with him, and a seed from the pomegranate tree in Hades’ garden, they were able to break the bond.  It was very painful, both physically and emotionally, and drained him for a very long time. He loathed the Olympians for constantly taking everything from him, and leaving him with nothing but pain, loneliness, and suffering.  A loud ringing of his phone pulled him out of his thoughts of self-pity and detest, “What is it Ariel, I don’t have all day.”    “Wow, someone’s extra grumpy today.”    “Yes, yes, I’m grumpy, what is it, what do you want?” He barked at the phone.    Ariel paused in silence for two seconds, “I missed you…” she said, “We all do…especially Adrien.”   His features softened and his heart…melted. His friends missed him, he secretly missed them too, they were his real family, not his so-called brothers that went back to ruling separately after all these years of imprisonment and never asked about him since.    “It has come to my attention, that, I too, have a ping of aching in my heart towards you all as well.”    A chirpy laugh shrilled through the phone, before drawling out, “Alright, so, based on us ALL missing each other, we’ve decided to come and see you tonight in California. Jake sister is Alpha of the White-Fire pack, and I think you should stay there while you’re on your search.”   “I was supposed to pass by Oregon first.” He mumbled.    “Pleeeeeease.” She begged annoyingly stretching her voice to piss him off.    “Alright, I guess I could detour and go back later. Although this will delay my plans, anything to get your annoying voice out of my hearing range.”    “See ya there grumpy pants.” She sang before abruptly hanging up the phone.  Hades sighed as he checked his wristwatch, 12:00 PM. He internally groaned as drove his way adding another 9 hours to the drive.
