Aurelia’s POV … It was the night of the Luna Ascension Ceremony. I was among the chosen ones tasked with serving food and drinks in the ceremonial hall. The head maid had said it was an order from the Alpha himself. But I'm pretty sure Selene must have demanded it. Oh well, I'll just try my best to make myself invisible. But the Luna didn't plan on letting me be. She left her royal seat and called me to the stage, asking everyone to take a good look at the one she took over from. "Even like this, she's still glowing, still looking so beautiful." She said with an insincere smile. "So what? The pack doesn't need a pretty vase. You're the chosen one, carrying the alpha heir. You're a million times better than her, Luna Selene," someone in the audience said. The alpha...just watched. I didn't expect him to defend me anyway. "Your Highness, please, may I take my leave?" I asked as politely as I could. Although I looked calm with a fake smile, within me was that familiar surge of hot energy coursing through my veins. Lately, when I get annoyed, I’d feel a surge of strength. I’d feel a bit of bloodlust as well but only temporarily. I’d quickly calm myself down and remind myself that it was me versus the whole pack, a fight that I could never win physically. But just now, I felt intense bloodlust.I wanted Selene dead. Since she was pregnant, she couldn’t shift or do anything considered laborious. I had the thought of beating her up, not minding the occasion. That the worst that could happen to me was death. But then, rationality took over. Still, I wanted nothing more than to leave this damned hall. "No, dear. Not so fast. I'm pregnant, you know. And I need somewhere to place my feet. Thankfully, you're here." Selenee grinned as if she'd just told me the best news ever. She was literally asking me to serve as her footstool. "I'm sorry, Luna, but I'm not worthy enough to do that. You can perhaps ask the person behind you. After all, he's an expert when it comes to stooping low." I replied, still wearing my fake smile. Her face immediately turned ugly. "What did you just say?" "Is being pregnant your only talent?" I couldn’t help but question, arms crossed over my chest. My bloodlust was still high, and it was taking all the will in me not to push her off the stage right now. She was seriously asking for it. Her brows furrowed, "What?!" "Your ears aren't decorations, are they? I refuse to act as your footstool. If you're insecure, just say it. No need to use actions to try to prove a point." "You! How dare you? How dare you speak to your Luna like that?!" She raged. "Your Majesty, please! Restrain your Luna!" I said in a much deeper voice as I turned to face my former mate. We locked a heated gaze for what felt like an eternity before he finally spoke. "Come sit down. You've done enough, Selene." The Luna looked rather unwilling. "What... But..." "Don't argue." Unable to disobey, she could only glare at me and harrumph. Kael then continued, "And as for you, Aurelia, talking to your Luna like that is an offence. You will receive twenty lashes in the disciplinary hall." "Your Majesty,” I said, nodding my head and then turning to leave, ignoring the mixed gazes and hushed whispers of those in the hall.
