I waited in line to be boarded on the plane. I showed the ticket to the stewardess and she wished me a nice flight. On the plane greeted me another two in blue and white uniforms to whom I smiled just and went to look for my seat. I was seated in the back of the plane. 26A. Both sides had 3 pairs of seats.
I put my luggage up and I noticed suddenly that I didn’t have my umbrella with me. I must’ve have left it at the pizza place.
‘Ahh, oh well’ I thought. Maybe someone who finds it will be happy to have it. It was a nice shade of light blue.
I sat down and hoped that if someone sat in the same isle as me then they would be sitting one seat after my seat and we both would have room to put our arms on the armrests.
Looking outside of the window there were the workers bringing other people’s luggage. And with that rain still outside it must not have been the best day at work.
People kept coming in but after a few minutes it thinned out and an older lady appeared in the end of my row, smiled politely and sat to the third seat, leaving us both an empty seat between.
I did a little happy dance in my mind to that.
The seatbelt lights came on in the headboard where usually there is a button that you can also call for a stewardess and adjust the air conditioning.
Then the captain announced that the flight will be about 3 hours long and the stewardess started to show us all a demonstration of safety regulations on the plane.
It’s always the same. Help yourself before you help others is the rule here.
And we were moving to the departure lane so that we could start our take off.
This part made me always feel a bit unsafe and for some reason it wasn’t advertised more that the most dangerous parts of flying with an airplane was take off and landing.
I looked a bit uncomfortably around and peeked a bit the lady in my isle. She had on a simple dark blue pantsuit with a loose neck grey shirt. Her short gray hair was styled nicely in loose locks and she had very little make up on. Lovely pearl earrings. A hint of ruse on the cheeks and a light pink lipstick. Also her nails were manicured freshly with light purple color.
She looked very well put together and if I would guess then she would be in her mid sixties.
She saw me peeking at her and she smiled politely.
“First time flying, dear?” She asked kindly.
“ Oh no, ma’am. I’ve done this several times.” I turned my full attention to her now.
“Do you go often to Italy?”
“Yes, dear. I try to go at least once a year.” She looked at her hands for a moment and smiled sadly like she was remembering something. “But this is my first trip after my Albert passed away.”
“I’m so sorry, ma’am,” I tried to say it as sincere as possible but I’ve never been to good at giving condolences to someone. Some people don’t appreciate being said nothing. Others are expecting a hug or hand holding straight away. It’s always difficult where each person stands in that area.
“ It’s all right, dear. We had many long years together and I don’t regret any of them. But it comes with old age the chance of not waking up anymore and my Albert, was already 75 years old when he didn’t.” She smiled again with saddens and then I noticed that she was touching her wedding ring on her ring finger. Simple gold band and yet it held so many memories for her.
I didn’t know what to say to that so I just smiled politely and wanted if she wanted to say anything more, but I think she was lost in her own thoughts.
I turned my head to look outside the window and saw that we were already above the clouds. The sun was shining very brightly always from this height.
I imagined what kind of a life the woman and her Albert might have had. Was it full of laughter and love? Did they have kids and grandchildren? Or were they more of dog people and just lived quietly to themselves in an old small English styled house. Or perhaps they pickered with each other all the time.
I guess that will stay as a mystery forever. But one thing I was certain of. There was love. Big love. Strong love. Because if two people are so long together with one another then it must be because of their love.
And that was something that I still hadn’t felt towards no one. I’ve never said It love you’ to a single man.
Sure I had a crush or two in high school and then in my late teens but for the past few years no man has gotten my interest or given me goosebumps to want to get to know them more than the initial first date or a drink. My only dates were set up by my best friend Marie who lived next door. We had worked in the same stable as horse riders for 2 years and counting.
Marie was gorgeous. A few inches shorter then me but with long blond hair to her waist and bright blue eyes. And god, she had won the jackpot with the longest eyelashes that framed her eyes and that amazing curves what every man desired. Needles to say that I was cast in a shadow when we went out together.
But I oh so preferred it that way. I liked that she took most of the attention and steered the guys away from me with just a flick of her hand.
While I, next to her with a simple A cup and an okey ass, looked just plain with my long brown hair to my chest and brown eyes. I also never wore heels, especially when I was with her because otherwise I felt like a giant.
That made me laugh a bit to myself. She was smaller then me but she was definitely louder.
I saw movement in the corner of my right eye and turned my head to see what was going on.
‘Ahh, it’s snack time’ food was brought by the stewardesses and offered also drinks. So I’m guessing it was first the drinks and then straight after the food time.
Even though I just ate, I always felt I could eat more.
“Would you like a drink miss?” The stewardess asked me first before the older lady.
“Umm, could I have a cola, please?
I always took a canned drink, even though they were miniature sizes on the planes.
“ Here you go,” and she handed me with her slender and perfectly manicured hand with clear nail polish my drink and a plastic cup on it upside down.
I smiled a thank you to her and opened my tray in front of my seat to set it on the table.
I heard the same question being asked from the lady and she answered “ white wine, please, dear.” She just oozed class the way she spoke, the way she moved and even looked.
I hope I could be a little bit like her one day and not just a clumsy young woman who from time to time trips over a invisible stone or burns a pot or a pan over the stove.
I guess there is always hope for me but I have a feeling that it’s not a passing thing in my life.
After a few minutes the next tray full of peanuts and sandwiches arrived and I was asked if I would like a ham and cheese sandwich or a vegetarian one.
I am a meat girl so I will always take it over just a vegetarian option.
But every one are different.
I was also passed a small bag of peanuts and I set everything on the table in front of me, opened my small can of cola and dug in my sandwich.
After a few bites and a sip of my bubbly drink I set the sandwich down and just looked outside of the window and the fluffy clouds that were shining so bright because of the sun.
The stewardess came back soon after everyone had finished eating their food and came to collect the trash. I gave my empty sandwich wrapping and the can that I just finished. I folded up my table back to its original position and put the full pack of peanuts in my jeans back pocket for later.
Relaxing back in my chair as much as it’s possible in coach class on the plane, I gazed outside and looked at the scenery that was visible through my window. You don’t see that every day for sure.
Because of the sun was a little bit higher then the clouds it gave them pink and yellow color making them look like cotton candy.
They reached until the eye could see.
It looked peaceful and beautiful. And my mind relaxed as well with the gorgeous view.
Suddenly there came a shadow from the sun and glided towards the plane. As fast as it came it also disappeared.
“Huh?” I said out loud and looked closer to the window scrunching up my nose a bit.
Did I just imagine that or was there really a huge goose flying over the clouds?
It appeared again and this time closer.
It was big with wings, long tail and a long neck and big head on in the end.
So what exactly was it? I will still call it a big goose because that’s the best I’ve got right now. But the size is getting bigger and bigger the closer it got.
The dark shadow glided closer to the plane and then disappeared again suddenly.
I started to feel uneasy because if I was the only one seeing this then my mind was playing weird tricks on me or I was just going slowly crazy.
Maybe finally I started to feel uncomfortable of the upcoming change of scenery or the air altitude from flying with the plane so high in the sky. Well, whatever it was, I didn’t like it. Not one bit.
Still no one seemed to have noticed anything strange outside so kept peeking if I saw it again and there it was. Now doing figure eights and just getting closer and closer. This time I could inspect it a little bit more and noticed that the wings were huge. And the tail part getting thinner towards the end until the diamond shaped tip.
I looked up to the sky and tried to see what exactly created the shadow but there was nothing. Also looking towards the sun to maybe see if there was something flying but all I could see were the fluffy clouds, the blue sky and the bright sun that was shining.
So what was creating the shadow?
It disappeared again.
‘Okey, girl. This is a dream and soon we will wake up’ probably I fell asleep half way to the flight and now I’m just dreaming of watching outside when in reality I was probably drooling while sleeping in a weird position with my head to my chest.
I pinched myself and I felt the pain but didn’t wake up.
I took a few deep breathes and looked outside again. Mentally preparing myself for some craziness again.
‘Giant goose, huh. That’s what my mind was making me see.’ As long as there are no flying pigs or something crazier then I guess I’m still far away from coo-coo land.
The shadow was visible again but this time came fast towards the plane until it disappeared under it.
I pressed my nose against the plexiglass and waited when suddenly the air plane windows were covered by darkness and the whole plane started to shake.
“Aah!” I grabbed the armrests with a death grip and was holding on for dear life.
The seatbelt lights went on and off twice to remind to keep them fastened.
A few moments later the shaking stopped and everyone looked relieved.
I glanced towards the old lady and she seemed unaffected by it all.
“Just some turbulence, dear,” and she shook her shoulders like it was nothing. Wasn’t she bothered by the sudden darkness? No?
I guess she didn’t see it then. But I sure did. And it scared almost my pants off.
Again darkness moved across the right side of the airplane now and the whole aircraft started to shake again.
I closed my eyes and held my breath because what the hell was that thing outside?
Next was a big thump on top of the airplane and the shaking stopped all together.
So what ever it was it was now directly above us.
I looked frantically around and still no one seemed even a bit scared so what ever was going on I was the only one who was seeing and hearing things.
Yeah, I’m going crazy.
I waited and waited what will happen next but for a full 5 minutes nothing changed.
Suddenly bright light started to shine through the roof of the airplane making it seem like it was made of glass for a moment.
The light kept coming more and more through until the it had seeped through all from the roof and was now shimmering and shining like white bright light but to look at it I would have needed my sunglasses. I shielded my eyes a bit but curiousity and a little bit of fear made me want to peek through my fingers.
The light started to dim out slowly and morphing into slender hands and then arms. White silky hair until the knees came out next and a white shimmery robe or a dress.
From the figure I would say that it was a beautiful woman forming in front of my eyes.
I removed my hands from in front of my face and kept looking at the woman.
Next her tiara appeared from on top of her head full of pearls and diamonds. Or was it a crown?
And then her face. Her full pink lips, fair complexion and a straight nose. She kept her eyes closed until the last shimmering light form on her forehead and a shiny white diamond shaped jewel appeared.
Her hair and dress were flowing making it seem like she was on a beach with a slight breeze making them dance.
The white mystical woman opened her eyes and I met with a pair of the strangest eyes that I have ever seen in my life. She had light grey eyes but what was strange were her irises. They were a grey color also, giving her a slightly scary look.
She started to move, more like float, towards me in the isle of the plane, all the while looking at me with those spooky eyes.
No one seemed to have noticed the strange woman on the plane because they all spoke on low volumes like nothing had happened.
Was that flying giant goose with a weird tail still on top of the airplane? I didn’t know.
When the white woman were in the end of my isle she lifted her right hand slightly and snapped her fingers very loudly and all of the movement stopped around me. It became really quiet suddenly. I couldn’t even hear the aircraft engines working.
I looked to my right to where the old woman was sitting and she was frozen. Her cup lifted halfway to her lips about to take a drink, mouth slightly opened in anticipation. But she didn’t reach to the drinking part. She was completely frozen in place.
I looked around as much as I could to other people and saw on the other side of my isle one row forward was sitting a man and was flipping through the newspaper, but the page and his hand were just about to finish turning and stuck mid air.
A few rows in front of me there was a small girl reaching with her hand to push a button on the headboard with a pointed finger. Her head was turned opposite of the sitting arrangement and one hand was tangling over the headrest to lift her higher to reach the button. The girls face was a little bit scrunched up in concentration.
Frozen. They were all frozen because of a snip of the fingers by this white woman who was looking at me patiently.
I looked at her again, scared, because who wouldn’t be scared to see a magical woman freeze the whole airplane and the people in it?
“Child, I have waited for you for a long time.” She said but her mouth didn’t move.
‘Huh? She has?’ I thought. Why would she wait for to freeze an entire plane for a long time.
I was still too scared to say anything but my curiosity started to rise.
“You are destined for great things but right now your destiny is waiting for you in another world.” She said, not said, with a voice full of melody.
She lifted both of her hands like she wanted a hug from me. ‘Yeah, I ain’t ready for a hug just yet with you white lady.’
“What destiny? And there is more then one world?” I started to loose my fear for the lady, even though I probably should be scared shitless.
For some reason she felt warm and safe. Even with her creepy eyes. Like I shouldn’t be afraid of her.
She smiled warmly with her mouth still closed, “Yes, child. There are many worlds. But you destiny is not a what, but a who.”
A who? What did she mean by that? I’m so confused that I don’t even know where to begin.
“All in time will come to you, my child.”
She lowered her hands a little, “ but now it is time.”
She started to lift her hands slowly again until they were above her shoulders.
“Time for what?” I scooted a little bit forward on my chair towards her because I needed answers.
“Remember, child, it takes a lot of courage and heart from you. Open your heart and trust your destiny.”
White light started to come from her hands and it got more and more intense until I needed to shield my eyes from it.
“Wait, I need to know more. What’s going to happen now? Where are you going?”
I couldn’t see anything anymore and suddenly it all went dark but I heard her say just her last words.
“When you are ready just ask and I shall come.” she whispered near.
The last thing I remembered was warm tingling all over my body as I welcomed the darkness.
