Chapter 4: Beyond

"Come on, children," my mother said, "we need to find somewhere safe; stay close now." Staying very close to her, we all ran away from the wall and onto the battlefield. As soon as I got further in, I felt countless spells going off simultaneously, and the sensation froze me along with my siblings. My mother swept us up in her wings and carried us off as we slowly adapted to the new environment. My mother found an area with more Dragons than Elemontols and stamped her front feet on the ground to form a vine wall with holes for us to attack from.  All six of us slid down her wings and stuck each of our heads into one of the spots. My mother, with her head in the middle, fired devastating solar breath attacks. Each destroying multiple Elemontols at a time, along with vines to separate their orbs. I looked down at my brothers and sisters them fighting just as hard as I was; I aimed and fired, hitting one of them it staggering back. "Mother, focus on the one I just hit," I said to her, hoping to kill it. My mother hit its entire body with a mighty ball of crackling solar energy, and the Elemontol next to it fell to the ground. "Yes, Drydra," she said, "fighting that Scyclaw has made you strong, come now, do not stop get that one next." I looked at where my mother had destroyed an Elemontol; another was standing over it. It then turned its "head" sharply, looking directly at us, "run!" She roared with all five of my siblings, getting away with myself staying unsure of the danger. "It is just another one. We can destroy it!" I roared after her, with my mother not answering; instead, she stomped her legs on the ground to slap me away with a vine. As I fell back, a solar beam tore through her body destroyed her head and ripping through her body. I looked up and saw the Elemontol soaring through the air; now, it was a threat. "Mother!" I screamed as I ran towards her. It was too late. The Elemontol came crashing down on my mother, crushing her body with its "feet." "Live," she cried, her head already regenerated with solar energy building in her mouth to fire a solar laser, her eyes glaring at the Monster. Her head was severed with one backswing, and the energy expelled from both her mouth and neck. The two beams became wild, with myself having to sidestep as one cut a deep trench through the earth. When they ceased, it had her head in its "hand," the others watched on in frozen horror. "Let her go!" I roared, shooting towards it. "Stay back, Drydra!" she roared as bright green energy sparked off her body. I could not stop, even if I could. I would not. "No!" I roared, and I saw her face sag, a thick vine burst from the ground and swung towards me. I rolled to the side only to be knocked back by another; I tumbled along the earth. "Mother!" I screamed, "what are you doing? Stop it. She smiled back, and then her face became stern with thick vines binding the Elemontol in place. "I will not let you hurt my children!" She roared as the pure green energy emitting from her head surged violently, "you will never kill anyone ever again. Please run far away from here, my children," I saw the Elemontol tighten its grip around her, and as the same energy coursed through its "fingers", she was cut apart. Herself falling to the ground as shards along with her jaw. The fragments pulsed before they were crushed under its "foot". After it killed her, it snapped its gaze towards us and brandished its "claws."  I felt my core become consumed entirely by rage. Only then could I move. "DIE, YOU MONSTER!" I roared as I threw myself at it, my breath becoming yellow fire. Using my claws, I slashed at his head at the other parts of its "body". The Elemontol just looked at me with its cold dead eyes, placed its "foot" on my chest, and threw me off. I crashed down on the ground, it coming to finish me, I felt weak, but I could still fight, I had to avenge my mother, "come on!" I screeched. The Elemontol was strolling towards me with the claw it used to kill my mother outstretched. "How could you!" one of my sisters roared as she dove towards it, her energy fading when it sidestepped and the crushed her tail spike. I saw one of my brothers watch on in horror before charging off. "This can not be the world we live in!" He roared, "this can not be how we live," I heard him say as he fought several with solar coated vines. Two others sivered and ran away only from their bodies to be crushed by a leg that seemed to be formed from Elemontol parts. The last one let himself sink into the ground until I could see not sense him any longer. It walked closer, I readied myself, and when it swung, I dodged underneath it so I could grab the central body orb and threw it down onto the ground. I struck down, using all my strength, leaving a scar on the Elementol's central sphere. It just slapped me away, got up, with claw ready to finish me, but stopped. In a flash of green light, the Elemontols vanished. I dashed towards my mother. "Mother, please be ok, please be ok!" As I patted her head, her eyes opened despite her core being shattered. "Drydra. I am so glad. That. You, lived," she said to me softly. "Yes, it is me I am here, I am not the only one left," I said, the words rushing from my mouth, "can I get a healer, please? It is my mother!" She smiled back. "I am. So happy," she said, "I feared. For the safety of you all. That is why I did what I did."What were you doing to do? I asked, "why?" "I was going. To destroy myself. In an explosion. Of raw elemental energy." My mother said, "either way. I was going to. Die in this battle," tears trickled down her face. "Damn that thing. If I had pulled it off. You would have all survived." "But why?" I asked. "You will understand. When you have. Children of your own. Drydra," she said quietly, "it. Destroyed my core. There is no saving me. I do not have long. Until the elemental energy. In my... Head, runs out." "No, you can live, you can survive this. Someone, anyone, please!" I shouted, again and again, looking around, and I could see other Dragons looking at us. "Can you. Please give. A little longer. With my daughter," I heard her say, her eyes looking elsewhere. I looked where she did and could not see any others. "Who are you talking to?" "Thank you for waiting," she said to no one again. "Mother?" "Listen, Drydra. When we die. We go to the undead region. Where we can live again." "So I can come with you, be with you if I die?" "Drydra," she replied, "remember me as I lived, promise me. You will live and keep fighting." "Yes, mother," I said, slowly realising that I was about to lose her forever. "Drydra, after I lost your father. I was so sad. But then I was able to birth you and your siblings, and I am just so glad that the three of you survived. Now please bury my body. When you get back home." "Of course, I will," I replied. "Baragon, will take care. Of you three from now on," she said. "Of course," I said as I gently touched her face. Her speech was becoming harsh, but I could hear her pushing through. "It is my time. But, Drydra, remember that all life, whether small or big, weak or strong, is still a life, and all life has to right to live and grow. So promise me you will keep living and not join me. Even they have a right, but this world forces us to fight them." "I will keep fighting, and I promise you I will destroy the Elemontol that killed you. You will be avenged." I looked down at her and saw her eyes were closed. She was dead. Still, she looked peaceful. I reunited her head with her body, then placed what remained of my brothers' and sisters' bodies on my mother's body. "Are they gone," I heard a voice whisper; I looked back, I saw one of my brothers his neck rising from the earth. "Yes, Tenolgon, they are gone. It is safe now." "Thank Ominomgon," he said as he stood, his legs shaking, "how many more of these are there going to be. I can no do this again," suddenly our mother's head hit the ground, "is that.  Mother?" He asked, his voice shaking. "Yes." "No, it can not be. She was so powerful," he cried and slumped to the ground. "Come on," I said to him, "we need to go back home." "Right," he said, getting up and keeping his head low. I used a vine to place her head back on the pile, and the two of us slowly walked back home.
