Chapter 3

1590 Words
Late the next morning after waking up, Amanda quickly showered, got dressed, and had breakfast. Then she took a nap during the day as she couldn't resist the drowsiness, likely a side effect of pregnancy. By evening, she heard a knock on the door and a voice calling out. "Hey, Amanda, open the door," Amanda opened her eyes, pushed herself up from the bed, and walked to open the door for Kim, still groggy. She quickly returned to sit on the bed as she felt a bit dizzy from getting up too fast. Kim noticed and asked with a concerned face, "You okay, dude?" while carrying a handful of food she had brought for Amanda into the room. "I'm fine, I just woke up, so I'm like this," Amanda replied, covering her mouth to yawn while watching Kim put milk and fruit in the fridge for her. "Why did you buy so much?" "I bought milk for you to nourish yourself, so my niece or nephew will be strong." Hearing that, Amanda felt her eyes sting with tears, deeply touched by Kim's kindness. Even though Kim wasn't the one who got her pregnant, she was still kinder and took better care of her than the one who did. "Thank you so much, Kim." "So, are you okay for tonight?" "Yes, I am." Just thinking about that jerk's face gave Amanda a sudden burst of energy. She pushed herself up from the bed and told Kim, "I'll go shower first." "Okay," Kim said, continuing to store the food in the fridge while Amanda grabbed a towel and disappeared into the bathroom. After a while, she came out, quickly got dressed, and by the time she was ready, the sun was almost setting. "Shall we head out now?" "Let's go, just in case he arrives early." With that, the two of them left the room, went downstairs, and hailed a taxi to a bar in downtown New York. It didn't take long before the green and yellow taxi stopped in front of the luxurious bar. They decided to wait in the car, having already arranged with the driver, as they didn't dare to wait inside due to the rather expensive drinks. "Do you think he'll come here today?" "I think he will." Hearing that, Amanda felt like crossing her fingers for Kim's words to come true because she didn't want to come for nothing. The two of them continued chatting in the car, occasionally glancing at the bar's entrance, until Kim spoke up. "That woman has an amazing figure!" As soon as Kim finished speaking, Amanda turned to look at the parking lot, seeing a woman in a black dress standing there. She admired her just like Kim, but then decided to ignore it and was about to turn back to the bar when she saw a familiar black sports car pull up to pick up the woman. Amanda squinted at the license plate, which she remembered well because it was a special one, instantly recognizing who the car belonged to. She quickly nudged Kim's arm and said excitedly, "Hey, hey, that's his car!" As her eyes followed the dark-tinted driver's window of the passing car, even though she couldn't see inside, Amanda was sure it was Carter's car. She remembered it well from the night she rode in it to the hotel. Kim, realizing this, quickly told the taxi driver, who had been listening to their conversation, hurriedly... "Follow that black sports car quickly!" "Got it," the taxi driver, acting as if he was on edge, replied and quickly pressed the accelerator to follow Carter's car closely. Normally, Amanda hated traffic jams, but today she was grateful for them because if there wasn't any traffic, they might not have been able to keep up with Carter. "Don't lose sight of that car," she said. "I won't lose it, don't worry. Are you two following your friend's husband who's cheating?" The taxi driver's words made Amanda almost choke on her own saliva, but upon reflection, it wasn't far from the truth. As Amanda was about to deny it, Kim's quick response beat her to it. "Yes, it's my friend's husband. Don't lose sight of him," Kim said. "Hold on tight, I'm going to speed up," the taxi driver said. Instead of denying it, Amanda chose to focus on Carter's car, which turned into a luxurious neighborhood. The taxi followed closely behind, and Kim remarked, "Is this a house or a mansion? It's huge!" Amanda felt the same way; even though she knew he was wealthy, she didn't expect his neighborhood to be this grand. But there was no time to dwell on it as Carter's car passed through the gate into the neighborhood. However, the car they were in was stopped by the neighborhood's security guard, who lowered the barrier to prevent them from entering, frustrating Amanda as she feared they wouldn't catch up to Carter. She then watched as the security guard approached the driver's side door and asked their taxi driver, "Which house are you going to?" Amanda quickly interjected, "The same house as the car in front." The security guard looked at her skeptically and scrutinized them both. Amanda hurriedly pulled out Carter's business card from her bag and said urgently, "We're here for Mr. Carter Sebastian's residence." Upon hearing the surname that Amanda mentioned, the security guard immediately responded with a respectful demeanor. "Could you please exchange your ID card?" After the taxi driver exchanged the ID card for security purposes, the guard allowed the taxi they were in to drive into the neighborhood. Amanda sighed with relief before hearing Kim tell the taxi driver, "Please drive quickly." "Sure thing." As soon as the taxi saw the taillights of Carter's car in the distance, it quickly accelerated to follow, with Amanda and Kim anxiously hoping they wouldn't lose sight of Carter's car. Fortunately, he wasn't driving fast. They followed the car until it reached a large house where Carter was parking. As they watched the tall gate slowly open, their hearts raced, and they heard Kim comment, "Is that a gate or a prison fence? It's ridiculously high." Amanda didn't respond. Once she saw Carter drive into the house, she quickly instructed the taxi driver to park in front of the house. Without delay, she opened the car door and ran inside. Seeing this, Kim quickly told the taxi driver, "Please don't leave yet. Wait for us." Then she hurriedly got out of the car and ran after Amanda. When both of them entered the large house with its spacious interior, Amanda half-walked, half-ran towards the front of the house, where a man and a woman were getting out of a car and walking inside together, with Kim running and complaining beside her, "Is this an entrance or an airstrip? It's ridiculously huge." And indeed, it was just as her friend had described, without any exaggeration. By the time they reached the main house with the luxury sports car parked outside, Amanda took a deep breath, turned to Kim, and when she saw her friend nodding and making a 'let's do this' gesture, she wasted no time and walked into the house without fear of any danger. As she passed through the large door, her eyes scanned the vast and luxurious interior of the house, making her hesitant to proceed. But when she heard a familiar deep voice coming from the right side of the house, "I brought the woman you claimed is pregnant with me." Amanda turned to look, her heart racing, her chest burning with anger at the words she heard. Without delay, she walked towards the source of the voice and saw two maids watching Carter, who was sitting and talking with his parents, with a woman pretending to be her sitting beside him. She then spoke to Carter with a mocking face, "I never thought you'd be such a coward, getting a woman pregnant and not taking responsibility, to the point of hiring another woman to pretend to be me." Amanda's words left Chandra and Peter, Carter's parents, stunned by what they heard. They then turned their gaze to Amanda, who stood with clenched fists, her eyes fixed intently on their son. When Carter saw Amanda in his house, he was taken aback because he didn't expect her to show up there. But once he regained his composure, he spoke with an annoyed expression and tone. "How did you get in here?" "I'm here to make you take responsibility for getting me pregnant." As soon as she shouted, Carter clicked his tongue in annoyance, got up from the sofa, grabbed Amanda's arm, and tried to drag her out of the house. "Get out of my house right now." "Let me go." "Then leave." Peter, who was watching, couldn't tolerate Carter's actions any longer, so he shouted at his son loudly. "Carter, stop!" At the unfamiliar roar, Carter stopped pulling Amanda's arm and turned to his father, who was sitting with his arms crossed, looking stern. He released Amanda's arm, sighed heavily, and ran a frustrated hand through his hair, then turned back to glare at Amanda, who defiantly met his gaze, small but very brave. "Sit back down on the sofa." Hearing his father's firm command, Carter reluctantly walked back to sit on the sofa, frustrated because he couldn't cover up anymore, as Amanda had ruined his plan. After Carter returned to sit on the sofa, the house fell silent, with no one speaking.
