After lying down to study some information about prenatal care, like what preparations and documents are needed, Amanda placed her phone beside her. Her small hand gently moved to touch her still-flat belly, softly stroking it as her mind was filled with numerous thoughts about her and her child's future. What would come next after giving birth?
Since she had no relatives to help with childcare and she still had to work, Amanda was really stuck.
“If people worse off than us can raise kids, why can't you, Amanda?” Encouraging herself, Amanda decided to let go of future worries and focus on the present instead. She slowly closed her eyes and soon fell asleep.
But because she wasn't used to the place, Amanda kept waking up on and off. She also felt thirsty from sleeping in an air-conditioned room for a long time. In her dorm, she usually switched between the fan and AC, but here, there was no fan.
Her small hand picked up the phone beside her to check the time on the screen. Seeing it was just midnight, not too late, Amanda got up from the bed, turned on the lights to brighten the room, and then went outside and downstairs to get a drink of water.
The small figure walked to the stairs through the dim light, as only the hallway lights were on throughout the house. It didn't take long for her to reach the bottom of the stairs, where she turned on her phone's flashlight and went into the kitchen to find some water to drink.
Meanwhile, Carter, returning from a drink, was about to head up to his room when his eyes caught the light in the kitchen. His sharp eyes narrowed suspiciously, wondering who was inside. Was it someone from the house or a thief? The tall figure changed his path from the stairs to the kitchen instead.
It didn't take long for his feet to stop at the kitchen door, where he saw Amanda standing and drinking water. He crossed his arms and watched her with a blank expression, his sharp eyes scanning her body, and he smirked with satisfaction at her figure, admitting it pleased him and sparked a desire to possess her.
But only temporarily, until he got bored and discarded her...
When Amanda finished drinking, she put the glass away and turned around. Seeing Carter standing there startled her, making her jump and exclaim.
“Oh! I thought it was a person.”
“If I'm not a person, then what am I?”
“I don't know. Fill in whatever answer you want,” Amanda replied teasingly before preparing to walk past Carter out of the kitchen. However, he blocked her way, speaking with a mocking face, while the smell of alcohol hit her nose strongly.
“Don't be too cheeky if you don't know me well.”
“If I don't want to know you, does that mean I can be cheeky?”
“Huh! You don't want to know me, yet you ran to me for responsibility. That's a bit contradictory, don't you think?” Carter said, glancing down at Amanda's chest before smirking and looking back into her eyes to continue speaking. “Or maybe you're just making excuses because you want me again. If you're so into me that you want to come back for more, just admit it.”
“Sorry, are you overconfident? If you hadn't gotten me pregnant, I wouldn't let you see my face. Your s*x was awful; sliding down a pole is more exciting than being with you.”
"Oh, really? How about we go for another round today? I'm curious to know whether a pole or my shaft gives you more pleasure." Carter didn't just talk; he pulled Amanda closer, making her stumble against his muscular chest. His large hand moved to her slender waist, caressing her smooth skin with fascination, his eyes fixed on her.
Amanda stood still to think for a moment until Carter was about to unhook her bra. She gave a mocking smile and said,
"If you want a repeat because you're hooked on me, just say so. No need to make up other excuses."
"In your condition! What's there for me to be hooked on?"
"Every bit! Otherwise, you wouldn't want me. Even though I'm pregnant, you still can't resist."
"Full of yourself," Carter said, releasing her arm and pushing her away with disdain. Once free, Amanda didn't respond; she just turned and walked out of the kitchen, heading quickly upstairs to her room.
Carter stood watching her intently before following her. When Amanda reached her room, she quickly went inside and locked the door securely...
She sighed in relief at the headache-inducing events of the day. It was only the first day, and she dreaded the days to come. She suspected she would definitely need some stress relief medication...
"Hang in there, Amanda," she told herself, knowing she had no choice but to keep going. She decided to ignore it and lay down to rest, knowing she had to get up early for the hospital the next day...
