After finishing everything, Amanda took a bottle of water and went up to her room. She securely locked the door before taking the medicine as prescribed by the doctor. Then she walked to the window to close the curtains. As her small hand was about to pull the curtains shut, her beautiful eyes glanced downwards, meeting Carter's gaze. Seeing this, Amanda quickly closed the curtains. She then lay down on the bed, her small hand moving to her stomach, gently caressing it with a face full of happiness, and soon fell asleep...
On Carter's side, when he saw Amanda's bedroom light go out completely, he chose to continue drinking with his friends until late at night.
"I'm heading back first, can't take it anymore."
"Do you mean you can't drink anymore, or can't wait to get home to your wife?" Seeing Dylan all over Mia, Cairo couldn't resist teasing him, even though he was barely able to keep his eyes open from drinking.
"Can't wait to get home to my wife."
"You jerk, you could at least pretend otherwise. It's tough for those without a wife." As soon as Cairo finished speaking, Mia hit Dylan's arm and scolded him for speaking so bluntly, making her blush with embarrassment.
"Dylan, speak nicely. Have some shame in front of your friends."
"I'm just speaking the truth," Dylan replied in a pleading tone, pressing his lips against Mia's soft cheek with adoration before resting his face on his wife's chest in a playful manner. Carter, watching, rolled his eyes in annoyance and turned away, while Cairo waved Dylan off.
"Hurry up and go home before you start pining away."
"Alright, I'm leaving then."
"Do you need help?" Seeing Dylan stagger slightly as he stood up, Carter asked with concern, but upon hearing the response...
"Stay out of it, I'm just going to snuggle with my wife," which made Carter so annoyed he couldn't help but retort.
"Then hurry up and get away from me."
"If you don't have a wife, just deal with being jealous," Dylan said as he walked with Mia to the sports car. Mia then drove Dylan home while Carter and Cairo watched with concern until the car disappeared from view. Cairo spoke with a hint of sadness in his voice.
“Having a wife is pretty handy, you know. She can drive you home when you're wasted.”
“Then go find one.”
“I'm not in a hurry.” While they were talking, a car pulled into the driveway, and they both turned to look. They saw Zena get out of the car and glance at them with a blank expression before strutting into the house. Seeing Zena just get home, Carter could only silently criticize his sister.
Not long after, Cairo spoke up…
“Why does Zena come home so late?”
“I don't know.”
“Don't you tell your sister not to come home late? She's a girl.” Cairo said, finishing his drink in one gulp while watching the house where someone else had just gone in.
“I've told her, but does she ever listen to me?”
“Maybe someone else should tell her.”
“Who else?”
“No one.” After Cairo's comment, silence fell between them. Soon, Carter turned to Cairo, whose eyes were glazed from the alcohol, and asked with a curious expression.
“When are you going home?”
“Do I look like I can go home?”
“So, you're staying here?”
“Yes.” Hearing that, Carter didn't respond, keeping his sharp eyes on Cairo before pushing himself up from the chair and saying in a calm voice that matched his expression.
“Are you done drinking? I'm tired.”
“Yeah.” After finishing the last of his drink, Cairo pushed himself up and leaned on Carter for support to avoid falling. The two men then walked into the house together. When they reached the second floor, Carter glanced at Amanda's closed bedroom door for a moment before leading Cairo into his own room and speaking seriously when he saw his friend about to get on the bed.
“Cairo, go take a shower first. Otherwise, you're not allowed on my bed.”
“I'm this drunk, and you're still being picky?”
“I'm not picky; I just like to keep things clean.”
"That's on you. I can't get up." Cairo seemed to care about what was said, but he really didn't. After speaking, he flopped onto the bed. Carter, watching, raised his hand to his temple, wanting to drag him off to sleep on the floor, but it was too late. So he let it go and went to take a shower to freshen up.
After finishing, Carter walked out of the bathroom, using a small towel to dry his damp hair. His sharp eyes glanced at Cairo, who was sprawled out on the bed. After getting dressed, he picked up the phone from the bed, then walked out of the room and headed straight to Amanda's bedroom.
When he reached Amanda's door, Carter knocked rapidly, startling the person inside awake. She pushed herself up from the bed, still groggy from being woken up after just a few hours of sleep. Amanda looked at the door, which continued to be knocked on without pause, then walked over to it, stopping at the door and asking with a puzzled look.
"Who is it?"
"Open up!" Realizing it was Carter, Amanda sighed in exasperation, muttering under her breath.
"Why's he being such a pain?" Despite her words, she opened the door for Carter, knowing he wouldn't stop otherwise. As soon as Amanda opened the door, Carter slipped inside, closed the door, and locked it securely. Seeing this, Amanda asked, confused by his actions.
"Why are you here?"
"I'm sleeping here tonight."
"What! You're sleeping here?"
"Are you deaf or something? Why repeat it?" After speaking, Carter walked past Amanda and lay on the bed, stretching out.
