My breath caught in my throat as Howard asked me an irrelevant question impulsively, like I wasn’t clear for the first time. The audacity to address him by his name rooted him to his spot.
My hand flew to my mouth, covering it instinctively. I was unable to believe the words that had come out of my mouth.
