9 He knew he should not have done this. But the iron will that had served him so well in the past appeared to have failed him miserably when it came to Lorena Simms. Waking in the pre-dawn darkness, he had rolled over so he might gaze upon her while she slept, her hair knotted into a sloppy braid for the night, falling in a dark river over her shoulder.
