The Heart's Reckoning

345 Words
When Andromeda opened her eyes, she found herself back in the temple. The Heart was still before her, its glow now dimmer, its power still palpable in the air around them. Thalor was beside her, his hand reaching for hers as if to steady her. "You’re back," he whispered, his voice laced with relief. "What happened?" Andromeda took a moment to collect herself, her fingers still tingling from the contact with the Heart. She could feel its power lingering in her veins, a raw, untamed energy that threatened to consume her. But it was also… invigorating. Powerful. She could feel the weight of the decision ahead of her—the responsibility of what she had just unlocked. "I saw them," she said softly. "The Lost Ones. They spoke to me. They want us to wield their power, but they warned me—once we start this, we can’t go back." Thalor’s expression hardened. "I knew it wouldn’t be easy. But if we don’t use it, then everything we’ve fought for will be for nothing." She nodded, her mind racing. The truth was more complicated than she had imagined. The Lost Ones weren’t just a force of destruction—they were a force of change, of creation. To wield their power was to reshape reality itself. But the cost was unknown. Would they be able to control it? Or would it consume them? "We need to decide," Andromeda said, her voice steady despite the uncertainty swirling inside her. "If we don’t use the Heart’s power now, then it will be too late. The balance between the worlds will collapse." Thalor met her gaze, his eyes filled with determination. "Then we use it. Together. We will control it." The two of them stood together, hands clasped tightly. Andromeda’s heart beat in her chest like a drum, the weight of the decision settling in her bones. They had unlocked the Heart’s power, and now, they had to face the consequences—whatever they may be. The fate of their world, and the fae world, lay in their hands.
