Chapter 4
Elsa struggled to break free but the stronghold was beyond her.
She hated the new smell of perspiration that filled the space. Elsa recognized that smell.
It made her blood boil as it reminded her of the pains she went through from heartbreak.
"Get your hands off me, scum!" Elsa roared as she struggled to break free.
"Haven't you missed me?" Kyle whispered into her ear before letting Elsa break free.
She faced him with rage in her eyes. Kyle saw no trace of love in her eyes.
"You're a complete i***t! Get out of my way!"
"Elsa, am sorry for…..
"Don't you dare call me again!" Elsa warned Kyle.
"Look, am sorry I left you, but I regret it every day!" Kyle apologized.
"What stopped You from apologizing months ago? I see you've gone crazy.!"
Kyle tried getting closer to Elsa.
"Don't dare step any inch closer to me!"
Kyle stopped in his tracks.
"I know you still love me, Elsa"
"Kyle, you're getting me upset now! Just leave, please!"
Kyle just nodded when he realized that Elsa wasn't going to allow him to apologize to her.
"I guess it's true then, huh?"
"What do you mean?" Elsa queried
"You're getting married to him, right?"
"That's none of your business!"
"I know you don't love him! I can see through you!"
"Really? Then you need glasses!"
"Elsa, I know you. You still have feelings for me"!
"Not anymore. I regret ever meeting such a dummy like you"
"I know I goofed up. But please, give me a second chance. Am a changed man!" Kyle pleaded.
Elsa couldn't believe Kyle would have the gut to return to her after disappearing with another lady four months ago.
"I don't care, Kyle. When you left me, you didn't think about how it would hurt me. Did you?"
" I wasn't thinking straight back then. I…..
"Save whatever trash you want to spill to me. Am not interested in any of that s**t. Just step aside. That's all I ask of you!"
"Elsa please, I want to make up for lost time," Kyle pleaded.
"Am sorry but all those memories have gone up in flames! There's nothing to make up for!"
Kyle was left speechless as he stared back at Elsa trying to make a connection with her but it was all dead.
"I just hope Dave won't cause you regrets!"
Kyle's words rang like a bell in Elsa's ears. She swallowed hard as she felt the truth in Kyle's remark. But she stood still, saying nothing.
"See you at the wedding then!" Kyle said.
"Don't bother, You aren't invited anyway!" Elsa fired back.
Kyle just fidgeted and walked away. When Elsa was sure he was gone. She broke down sobbing quietly.
While Elsa was crying her pain away, an emergency ambulance quickly drove into the hospital with its siren blaring loud.
The sound distracted her mind. Elsa looked out to see what was going on.
She was puzzled as there were lots of convoys that followed after the ambulance.
"I'm guessing whoever is in that ambulance must be wealthy!" An old and crackling voice said.
Elsa quickly turned around to notice an old lady that stood close to her.
She wiped her tears off, hoping that the woman didn't see her crying. She was puzzled how she didn't know when the woman walked up to her.
"I…I thought as much!" Elsa stuttered in embarrassment.
"Life can be tricky. All those wealth would be left behind if the victim didn't make it alive" the old lady said in a low and emotional tone.
Elsa paused. Thinking about how wealth and everything humans struggle to get every day wewasanities.
She looked out again as the victim was being extracted carefully and wheeled in by some doctors. Elsa noticed how tense the doctors looked. It was an emergency situation.
It turned out that they were headed in her direction. Elsa stood there as they approached with the victim.
When they were inches away, Elsa had a feeling like she knew who the victim was.
They came up close enough for her to be able to make out the face of the victim.
Elsa's heart skipped a beat as the victim's face looked familiar even though the victim was on oxygen.
She couldn't believe what she was seeing before her eyes.
"No!......it can't be!" Elsa whispered to herself as she watched in disbelief as the doctors passed by with the victim.
"It seems you know the victim?" The old lady asked.
Elsa jolted back to reality. She didn't want to believe it was she thought it was.
"Maybe it's not who I thought it was" Elsa replied.
The old lady just nodded in return.
"It's a man," the old lady said.
"Yeah, and his condition is quite serious!" Elsa replied, hoping that the victim isn't who she thought him to be.
"Money is good but it can't buy you everything!"
"But it's quite disappointing though!"
"That's why we all need to be humble and down to earth in life "
"True. I pray he becomes okay "
"Yeah. The doctors will give their best for his recovery. You could tell from their expression!" The old lady said.
Elsa looked over at the old lady for the first time. She looked sad and had wrinkles under her eyes. Elsa wondered what she must have gone through in life.
"I bet the poor wouldn't be treated the same way," Elsa said, remembering how her mom was left unattended when they ran out of cash to pay her bills.
"But in the end. Everybody will surely die someday. Death is inevitable" the old lady said.
Suddenly, Elsa's phone began to buzz. She quickly reached for it from her pocket.
She looked up to see who was calling.
It was a strange number.
She hesitated before answering the phone but the caller said nothing, Just breathing at the mouthpiece and it made Elsa uncomfortable.
Could it be that the caller had no idea she had picked up the call? She thought.
But when the caller spoke. Elsa almost dropped her phone as she froze for some minutes.
She had never seen that phone call coming!
