Chapter 4

Darius' POV “If she has enchanted you, King Darius, why don't you open up? Because it's clear you've been held by her in a bad way!” Morgan spat, anger and frustration evident on her face as she glared at Sara, who stood closer to me. One thing she didn’t understand was the fact that I had already made up my mind. I had decided never to let go of Sara, and there was definitely nothing Morgan could do to change that. She sealed her fate with me the second she left the wedding venue for reasons best known to her. “King Darius, she—” She was going to keep speaking out of frustration, but I immediately cut in sharply, not letting her continue. “You know, Lady M, you are beginning to irritate me to the core, and you of all people should know what happens when I get irritated. Don’t make matters worse and leave now!” I warned, but she wouldn’t listen to me. To her, I was a game, a toy to be won. I wouldn’t blame her. Who knows? Maybe that was what her father had clearly informed her about. “But you can’t take this bastard over me, King Darius! You can’t let her take my place. I won’t allow it!” she snapped, making me scoff. Who in the world did she think she was at this point? With my fists clenching, I took my gaze away from her and turned to the entrance of the hall. “Guards!” I shouted loudly, my focus still on the entrance of the hall. “You can’t call the guards against me, King Darius! I am the head Gamma in this pack! You can’t call the men under me to drag me out! That’s not happening!” She stood her ground, making me feel like she was actually challenging me. If there was one thing I didn’t like, it was definitely anyone challenging me, their king. With a malicious smirk curling across my face, I walked closer to where Morgan stood. My smirk faded immediately as I stood before her face. “Morgan Ash… you are nothing but a mere Gamma under me as your King. I can do whatever I wish to do regardless of your position in the pack!” The second I let those words out, her eyes widened in both fear and disbelief. She wasn’t expecting it. Just then, the door burst open. Finally, my guards were here. They ran toward Morgan and instantly gripped her hands. “What’s the meaning of this? Let me go now!” she commanded as she struggled against their grip, but it was all futile. “Next time, I wouldn’t advise you to show up during the coronation of my Luna!” I let out before turning to the guards. “Take her out and make sure she doesn’t get in here again! Is that clear?” I ordered in a deep, furious voice. “Yes, King Darius!” they bowed swiftly, and without another word from me, they turned on their heels and dragged Morgan out. “You can’t do this, King Darius! I belong by your side! King Darius, please!” she cried out, but I was way past and over her. There was no turning back. The second the door was shut, I turned back to Sara, who still looked stunned and had a sudden glint of anger in her eyes. I wasn’t sure why, but it intrigued me. Walking closer to her, so close that I could place my hand on her shoulder, I stared right into her eyes. I was going to ask her how she was feeling, to know what was wrong, but then it happened again, just as it had during our wedding. I could sense my inner wolf stir. This is the reason I can’t let go of her. She made something that had never happened in ages happen. Most of the pack members didn’t know this, but I was cursed—cursed with the inability to find my mate. But why was I feeling it with her? With Sara? A rogue? Just as I was still trying to piece it all together, Sara instinctively pulled away from my grip, her sudden move making me realize how long I had held her in place. “I… I’m…” I cleared my throat, stuttering. “Are you okay?” I finally asked, embarrassed by how I had just acted toward her. “Yes, King Darius… I’m fine. Thank you so much,” she bowed to me as she responded. But I didn’t want that. With my hand reaching and gripping her chin, I lifted her face to mine. “It’s fine. You are my Luna after all, and no one should dare speak ill of you before me,” I said, my heart racing at this point. Luckily, Beta Derek walked closer to where we stood. “King Darius!” he called out, pulling me out of my thoughts and admiration. I turned sharply to face him. “Is there a problem?” I questioned with my left brow arched. “None, King Darius. Just that Elder Murphy is here, and he is requesting your presence,” Derek informed me, instantly alerting me. “Take my Luna back to the packhouse, then come for me once you are done. Is that clear?” I commanded, but Beta Derek’s worry about my whereabouts didn’t budge. “But King Darius, that’ll be putting you in danger and—” he started to say, but I cut in sharply. “Do as you are told, Derek. Worry later!” I demanded before walking away from where he stood with Sara. I headed straight to the spot where Elder Murphy and I would usually stand and discuss. He was once an elder in the Howling Pack, but because of reasons known to him, he fled the pack for the Moon Lord Pack. I felt he knew something—anything—about my parents’ death, and tonight, I was going to find out. The second I got closer to where he was, anticipation etched across my face, I bowed slowly to him. The area was dark, the kind that would hide our meeting from the prying eyes of the pack members. “King Darius…” he reciprocated the bow. “I’m sure you know why I summoned you back to the Howling Pack tonight,” I said in a deep voice that echoed nothing but seriousness, devoid of any hint of humor. “I’m fully aware, King Darius, and that’s why I have come to tell you this…”
