The Grand Hall Dinner

1092 Words
The grand hall of the Bear Crest Pack House was a massive room filled with long wooden tables, stone pillars, and the roaring sound of laughter and conversation. The scent of roasted meat, fresh pine, and ale filled the air, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. However, the moment Alpha Kael entered the room with Aria by his side, the entire hall fell into a sudden, heavy silence. Hundreds of eyes turned toward them, staring intently at the small she-wolf walking next to their feared leader. Aria could feel the intense weight of their gazes, some filled with curiosity, others with deep suspicion and anger. She instinctively kept her head low, her hand tightly gripping the edge of the dark woolen sweater she wore. Her inner wolf whined anxiously, feeling the collective tension of the pack. Kael noticed her discomfort. Without a word, he reached down and gently placed his large hand on the small of her back, guiding her forward with a firm and reassuring touch. The subtle gesture sent a wave of calm through Aria’s veins, the spark of the mate bond working its silent magic once more. They walked toward the elevated head table at the front of the hall, where Beta Gideon and several senior warriors were already seated. Kael pulled out a heavy wooden chair right next to his own, gesturing for Aria to sit down. "Sit, Aria," Kael murmured softly, his voice low enough for only her to hear. "You are safe here." Aria sat down, her eyes darting across the table. Across from her sat a beautiful, sharp-featured woman with long silver hair and striking gray eyes. The woman was staring at Aria with an expression of pure disdain and jealousy. "So, this is the rogue our Alpha rescued from the cold," the silver-haired woman spoke, her voice laced with venom. "I am Tanya, the lead warrior of the eastern border. I find it hard to believe that a stray wolf who knows nothing of our laws could be chosen as the Luna of the north. "The words echoed across the head table, causing several warriors to look down uncomfortably. Gideon cleared his throat, but before he could speak, Kael leaned forward, his golden eyes flashing with a dangerous, golden light. A low, thunderous growl rumbled from his chest, making the glasses on the table vibrate. "Mind your tongue, Tanya," Kael commanded, his voice dropping to a terrifying pitch that sent a chill through the entire room. "Aria is my destined mate, chosen by the Moon Goddess herself. An insult to her is a direct insult to me. If you question her place, you question my judgment. Do I need to remind you of the consequences? "Tanya’s face paled, and she quickly lowered her head, submission overriding her anger. "Forgive me, Alpha. I meant no disrespect to you." Kael’s gaze lingered on her for a moment longer before he turned back to his plate, the heavy aura in the room slowly dissipating. Aria watched the exchange in silence, stunned by how easily Kael could control an entire room of powerful warriors with just a single glance. She also felt a strange, fluttering sensation in her chest. No one had ever protected her like that before. In the wild, she had always been completely on her own. As dinner progressed, Kael placed various choice cuts of meat and fresh fruits onto Aria’s plate, ensuring she ate well. Despite the initial tension, Aria found herself eating hungrily, the food filling her with much-needed energy. "You don't have to do that," Aria whispered to Kael as he handed her a slice of sweet bread. "I can feed myself." "I know you can, little wolf," Kael replied, a small, genuine smile softening his rugged features. "But it pleases my wolf to provide for you. You have been running for far too long. It is time for you to be taken care of. "Aria looked into his golden eyes, searching for any signs of deceit, but she found nothing but absolute sincerity and fierce devotion. It was terrifying how quickly her defenses were beginning to crumble under his care. After dinner, Kael was pulled into a serious discussion with Gideon and the senior warriors regarding a recent rogue sighting near the southern borders. Sensing an opportunity to clear her head, Aria quietly stood up and slipped away from the head table, walking out of the noisy grand hall and into the quiet, candle-lit corridors of the Pack House. She wandered aimlessly, eventually finding her way to a set of glass doors that opened into a beautiful, snow-covered courtyard. The cool night air felt refreshing against her warm skin, and she took a deep, steadying breath. The giant full moon hung low in the dark, starry sky, casting a beautiful silver glow over the snow-covered pine trees and the frozen waterfall in the distance. It looked exactly like the stunning scenery carved into the mountains surrounding the pack territory. "It is beautiful, isn't it?" a gentle voice spoke from behind her. Aria spun around defensively, her muscles tensing, but relaxed slightly when she saw it was Beta Gideon. The older man walked into the courtyard, his hands tucked into his coat pockets as he looked up at the moon. "Yes, it is," Aria replied softly, turning back to face the view. "But it feels like a beautiful trap. "Gideon chuckly softly, stepping up to stand a few feet away from her. "Alpha Kael can be overwhelming, I know. He is a fierce protector, and his wolf is incredibly possessive of what belongs to him. But he is a good leader, Aria. This pack has faced many dark winters, and Kael has carried the weight of our survival on his shoulders since his father passed." Aria looked at the wise old Beta. "Tanya was right, though. I am a rogue. I don't belong in a fortress like this." "The Moon Goddess does not make mistakes, child," Gideon said gently, looking at her with warmth. "There is an ancient prophecy in our pack—the prophecy of the silver winter. It says that when the north faces its darkest threat, a lone wolf from the wild will arrive to unite the fractured lands and bring peace as the true Luna. I believe you are that wolf, Aria. "Before Aria could process his words, a loud, panicked shout echoed from the front gates of the fortress, shattering the peaceful silence of the night. "Intruders! The southern rogue faction is breaking through the eastern gates!"
