It took us somewhere around twenty minutes to clear the field of grass. Luckily we made it out without another confrontation. We ended up on a decaying street. It was lined with abandoned cars. There was an overpass a little further down. The grass and weeds had forced their way up through the asphalt over time, and now it was starting to look like a forest. Some people were hanging out in the cars talking and a few couples were hugged up in the backseat of a van that we passed. I didn’t understand how people had the kind of time to sit around casually knowing what was ahead. But I guess it wasn’t any of my business, who was I to judge?
