Chapter 4 Melissa “And the young lady will be having?” the waiter asks me while holding a bottle of wine in front of me. I nervously raise my glass to him, and he carefully pours the velvet liquid into my wine glass. Strange as it may seem, the wine almost looks like fabric in my eyes. “Don’t be scared, it won’t bite,” teases Dr. Mallory. I smile but can’t help but stare at the pitch-black glass of wine in my hands. I take a sip from it, it’s viscous texture flooding my mouth. Sensuality comes into my mind as the drink slowly flows from my tongue down to my throat, almost caressing my mouth. Dr. Mallory grins, “Good, eh?” I take a few seconds to respond, “Dr. Mallory, this wine is exceptional. At first, I was disgusted by its thick texture, but the taste is just out of this world.” “Please, call me William. Almost like drinking blood, right?” he comments, “That’s a Miani. A celebrated wine from Friuli in Northern Italy. Only 7,300 bottles are made from a fifteen-hectare vineyard.” “That’s pretty inefficient,” I reply, “Fields of that size should produce around 60,000 bottles a year.” “That’s because the grapes used to make Miani have lesser grapes on a vine,” he explains, “The grapes are much denser which results into the thick wine you just tasted. Much like people, I prefer to be with people of quality. They may seem mad to most people, much like Miani, but once you taste them, you’ll wish you’d taste them earlier.” William grins and seductively looks at me, “I’m getting the feeling we’re no longer talking about wine here.” I reply. “Mommy! Let me sip-sip,” cries Jake as he tries to reach out for the wineglass in my hand. William and I both laugh. I still can’t believe that he got Saison, one of California’s most expensive, all for himself. It wasn’t long for the waiter to bring his tray to serve us our food. “To Dr. Mallory, a fine steak of Wagyu beef freshly imported from Japan,” he says as he serves William’s dish. A huge, thick piece of steak, dripping in some kind of heavenly sauce. “To Ms. McAdams, Atlantic lobster with salad,” he says as he serves. “Wait,” I interrupt, “ I only ordered for the salad.” “And I say you should eat more than just a salad,” says William, “A real woman healthily eats like a man. And don’t worry, lobster still fits in your keto diet.” My stomach growls as the waiter puts the massive plate of red lobster in front of me. “Eat it, mommy. You shouldn’t be hungry,” Jake says, concerned. “T-thank you, William,” I graciously accept. “And for the young gentleman here. Ugh. One happy meal from McDonald's,” he says with regret. “Yey!” Jake celebrates. After the delicious dinner, William takes me back home to watch a movie. He brings the leftover salad and goes to the kitchen. He returns with a bowl of what looks like vegetable salad cut up into tiny dinosaur pieces. “My Piece De Resistance, Jurasalad world! Rawr!” William roars. Jake roars along with him as we all settle down on the couch to watch Jurassic World. I feel a sense of peace wash over me as I look at Jake, resting his head over William’s lap. Almost as if we were one happy family. Jake surprisingly chows down all of the salad before William, and I could even try one. “Yummy!” he shouts. William laughs, “Thank you, Jake. I’m glad you liked it. Good to know that I’m as good a chef as I am a doctor.” Unfortunately, Jake falls asleep before he could finish the movie. Willliam carefully carries him up to his room and unto his bed. “He looks more of an angel now than a kid.” William comments. Jake sleeps peacefully on his bed. “Quite the contrast to the energetic devil when awake?” I joke. “But he’s my lovable, energetic devil.” “What’s not to love?” William asks as he picks up Ken lying on the floor, “I mean, look at all these Barbie dolls all over the place. I kinda envy lucky Ken over here. He’s got everything he could ever want here. Beautiful women and the love of a kind young boy.” Jake suddenly wakes up, “Ken!” as he reaches for the doll in William’s hand. William obliges and hands Ken over to Jake as he snuggles Ken in his chest before falling asleep. “Like I said,” William whispers, “I kinda envy lucky Ken over here. He’s got everything he could ever want here. Beautiful women and the love of a kind, young boy who can’t sleep until he’s got Ken wrapped around his arms.” Jake suddenly wakes up again, “Dr. Abs, tell me a story about Ken and Barbie.” William graciously responds and sits down next to Jake, “Sure thing Jake, Ken was a handsome, young doctor who was just driving around town in search of true love’s kiss to cure his heart until he saw beautiful Barbie on the side of the road. Ken immediately helps Barbie fix up her broken car. But Barbie was late for something and left him behind without true love’s kiss. Poor old Ken goes to work feeling sad.” “Poor Ken,” mumbles Jake, almost falling asleep. “Uhuh. But to Ken’s surprise, Barbie actually was in a hurry to meet him since her handsome little son was sick. Ken tells Barbie that all she needs to do is give her son true love’s kiss so he’ll be better again.” William looks at me. I sit next to Jake and kiss him lightly on the forehead. I can’t believe how sweet of a man he can be to my son. “And voila!” William whispers happily, “Her son is cured. The end. Did you like that, Jake?” But Jake is sleeping soundly. We tiptoe out of the room. William heads for the stairs below, “Such a great kid, thanks for tonight, Ms. McAdams.” “Please, call me Melissa,” I reply, “And you can’t go yet, I haven’t had my happily ever after.” Wiliam turns to me in shock, “What?” But I kiss him before he can say anything back.
