In that moment, Lucas decided he wanted to be there for Greg when that time came. No matter what happened between them, or if nothing happened, he wanted their friendship back. He missed him, for Christ’s sake! They’d been the best of friends, and had it not been for those romantic feelings getting in the way and f*****g everything up, he was confident they’d still be the best of friends. Laughing, joking, chatting about everything and nothing… despite the horrific things they’d seen and done in the army, they’d been the happiest days of Lucas’s life, and it was all down to Greg. The army he could live without—he loved being a fireman just as much—but Greg? He needed him back in his life, to stay. The fact he was in a wheelchair was utterly irrelevant—the man he loved was just the same.
