Lila's POV
The car pulled through a gate taller than anything I'd seen since the mansion back home. Iron bars parted. Behind them rose a house built entirely of glass. It stood high against the dark sky. Warm light spilled from every window. Snow gathered in soft drifts along a stone path that led to the front doors.
A man met us at the entrance. Tall and lean. His dark hair cropped close to his scalp. He wore a simple black uniform, sharp at the collar. He bowed his head slightly the moment Kael stepped out of the car.
"Alpha," the man said. His eyes moved to me next. Curious but careful. "And this must be her."
"Lila, this is Fred, my beta. He runs the estate when I don't."
