47 Caroline’s head was a mess. Focus was impossible. She didn’t know how much of it was down to the case itself and how much was caused by her recovery and her present mental state, but it wasn’t entirely out of the ordinary for her at the best of times. It was almost the opposite of the calm before the storm: it was the fog and confusion that came before the moment of clarity which would unlock everything else.
