Arlinas POV
The cold breeze seeping through my window gave me a burst of energy as my alarm clock went off. It read 5:45 AM. Even though I don't get all dolled up for school like girls back at my old school did, I at least want to make a good impression considering I will be going to college instead of high school this year. Oh yeah, my name is Arlina Langley. I am 17 years old and will be turning 18 in three weeks. The reason I am going to college is because my grades and GPA were outstanding for someone my age and they thought I would have a better chance at going to college instead of being bored learning things I already knew in high school. Plus, I got to pick my own classes instead of having to take extra-curriculars that gave me absolutely no credits. Anyways, today is the first day of college, and like I said before, I want to make a good impression. Although I don't want to look too approachable. I dislike socializing, you'd think, because I was in choir class, I'm an outgoing person, but that is not the fact. Singing just makes me comfortable.
I've always been different. My sense of smell and hearing is out of this world, and that is what made me turn anti-social. The friends I had started rumors about me, and bullied me any chance they got. I could run a mile in 2 minutes in gym class too. So, after all of that nonsense, I started sticking to myself. Although I couldn't get out of gym class for the first two years, which was complete hell, by the way, I still found ways to be out of sight and out of mind. Don't know how, because I definitely looked a few people in the eyes. Either way, high school sucked.
I picked out a cream fuzzy off-the-shoulder blouse, with black leggings, and a pair of white vans. I pinned my black curls in a bun and let a few strands fan out around my face. I applied light mascara because why not? Ive never been a fan of heavy makeup. Seeing girls with their sharpie eyebrows and skeleton cheeks made me despise the idea of it. Light makeup is my thing. Lastly I put on my glasses and headed downstairs to the kitchen for breakfast. It was no surprise that I heard movement in the kitchen. Mom was always up before me.
"Hey mom, good morning!" I chuckled
No matter how early it was mom always blasted R&B
"Good morning baby, how'd you sleep? I made your favorite for breakfast! We have egg-bake, toast, bell peppers with cream cheese, and nutella crepes!" She glistened
Hearing all of this made my mouth water.
"Oh wow whats the occasion?" I spoke sarcastically, because I knew just how excited her and dad were for me going into college so early. Speaking of dad, I could hear his footsteps approach the kitchen.
"Oh don't be silly, do you know how hard it is to get into SOPHOMORE college classes at SEVENTEEN years old? I think you're pulling my leg kiddo." My dad chuckled walking up to mom and giving her a heartfelt kiss.
Looking at my parents always brings me back to my first coherent thoughts of my life. My father was extremely tall, with a slender build, straight hair that was always faded with a small mop on his head and hazel eyes. Where as my mother was short and skinny with dark brown long wavy hair, and dark brown eyes. Both of their complexions were fair. That leads to me, I stand at 5'11, I have long black curly hair, I'm as tan as a perfectly cooked pancake, and I have bluish-purple eyes. That is one thing about me, I love my eyes. They are very unique, looking at them in the sun they look to be a light purple almost lavender. But in normal light they are a dark bluish-purple. When I am angry my eyes seem to be glowing, I thank the gods that I know how to reign in my emotions because if anyone had found THAT out about me, they may put me in a government lab. You'd think I was a superhero or something. I just think I'm adopted because I look nothing similar to my parents, but they have been loving and kind I havent had the heart to bring it up to them.
"Haha very funny dad, well I am about to head out pops! Thank you for the breakfast mama!" I said deep in thought.
"Alright baby we will see you when you're out!" my mom spoke.
With that I hopped in my 2019 Black Chevy Malibu and made my way to Ellington University while my thoughts consumed me. The only thing that could be heard were the gps directions to my new school.
