1091 Words

“You most of all, my love,” Dalen replied. Crouching next to the chair, Desa reached for the spoon. Dalen was happy to give it up. She dipped it into a glass jar that sat on the edge of the table and dug up another clump of orange sauce. “You gonna eat for Mama?” Brendan didn’t flinch at her offering, but he didn’t open his mouth either. He just sat there, eyeing the peaches as if he thought they might be poison. Finally, his gaze flicked to the rings on Desa’s hand. “Light!” “Eat first, and then Mama will put on the light.” “I want light!” He grabbed her middle finger, trying to tug the ring off. That one did not contain a Light-Source. If triggered, it would emit a blast of electricity from the small, clear stone. “No, honey, that’s not for you.” not Desa had to pull her hand away.
