12. Midnight Visit

‘Why do I feel like a traitor? There is nothing that I’ve done wrong.’ I thought and turned my head to the side. I knew that if Ellaire saw the note, she would go rampage. I could tell that from the reaction she had earlier at the dinner. “Yeah, everything’s fine. I couldn’t sleep. What about you? Did you change your mind?” I asked, trying to look casual. She started laughing and walked towards me, watching me with narrowed eyes. “Oh, my love! Is this all you can think about?” She asked, still laughing, then extended her hand, offering me a bag. “I only remembered that I haven’t given you this. Here! This is for you. See if you like it.” She said, and after I grabbed the bag with my left hand because in the other I was still hiding the note, she took a seat on my bed. “Are you staying? What is this?” I asked. “You wish!” She said and started laughing again. "I only want to know if you like it. Go change so I can see how it fits.” She added. “As you wish, Luna,” I said amusingly and headed to the bathroom. After I closed the door behind me, I sighed with ease. She didn’t see the note. I placed it on the shelf under the bathroom towels and opened the bag. “Come on, Levi! What's taking so long?” I heard Ellaire shouting from the other room. “I’m coming. But you should already know that this body needs time and attention.” I said jokingly while putting on the black shirt in the bag. It looked so good, and the texture was terrific; so soft but so fit. “That looks even better than I thought it would. Too good! Maybe I should change it, or all the females will go nuts when they see you.” Ellaire said as soon as I exited the bathroom. “Oh, thanks, my love. But I’m sure it is not that bad.” I said, smirking. “No. You are right, and it’s not like that.” She said and got up. “Now I will go. You keep that well for me, my love.” She said, pointing at my shirt, then heading towards the door. “Are you sure that you don’t want to stay?” I asked. But honestly, I was more intrigued by that note than the thought of spending the night with my Mate, even if this seemed wrong. She stopped for a second and turned her head to the side, and I could see a smirk decorating her face. After she made quick eye contact with me, she exited my room slowly and closed the door behind her. I quickly walked to the same door, ensuring she was gone; then, on my way to the bathroom, I took off my shirt and headed straight for the mysterious note. I was there for about ten minutes, contemplating if I should read it or not. Then after I took a deep breath, I opened it, and my heart started beating three times faster when I saw the inside. “Follow Lira!” I looked out of the window to see if anyone was there, as I already knew who this note was from, and I saw Lira pacing back and forth in the garden from the front of the building. I pulled a t-shirt over my head and opened the window. I knew that if I wanted to get out without Ellaire noticing, that was the only way. As soon as I put one leg out, I heard someone running in Lira's direction. I wasn’t sure if I could reach her first, so I returned and gestured for her to hide. She followed my instructions, and after the two men got far enough, she got out and motioned for me to hurry. As soon as my feet hit the ground, she started running, and I followed her while keeping my distance. If anyone there might see us, I would like to avoid the impression of Lira and I running together or something like this. When she got to the shield, I was surprised to see her not slowing down or stopping. She just kept running, and I was about to follow her, but I heard someone calling from behind me to cease. I lost Lira from my sight as soon as I heard the voice. “What are you doing here?” I heard the man from behind me while he was getting closer. “Am I not allowed to have a walk?” I asked with an annoyed and cold voice. “I asked you a question!” He said again. “And so did I!” I said back in an even cold and more resounding voice while turning to face him. The guy almost choked on his spit when he saw my face, and I could see that all his confidence was gone already. “I-I’m so sorry, sir! I thought there was someone else. Please don’t tell Luna. Please!” He said. At a closer look, I noticed that he wasn’t even a warrior. He was a skinny guy around the age of seventeen who looked like he didn’t want to be out there in the forest. “What’s your name, kid?” “I-I’m Toby, sir. Please accept my apologies!” He said and bent his head. “Always keep your head up, Toby, no matter who you talk with,” I said in a lower voice. “Well, except if you are talking with your Alpha. But as far as I know, I am not your Alpha.” Toby smiled and nodded his head. “Thank you, sir!” “Levi. My name is Levi.” I said, looking into his blue eyes. There was something about this kid. Something that somehow reminded me of Chris. “Are you sure that that will be ok with our Luna?” He asked, looking away. “I can guarantee she won’t say a thing about this.” He looked at me, slightly unsure, then smiled and straightened his back. “Well, then, Levi, enjoy your walk. I will get back to my duties now. I don’t want to get in any trouble.” Toby said and turned to leave. “What exactly are your duties? You don’t look more than seventeen.” I asked, only to confirm my guess while walking closer to him. There was no point in trying to find Lira now, as she was long gone. “I’m one week over seventeen, and I’m a border patrol, as you will call it. Only that this is our border here, so maybe you can call me a shield patrol. ” He said, laughing, and we left in opposite directions. I watched him from behind from time to time till I wasn’t able to see him anymore, thinking why Ellaire would allow such a young boy to do this and also why she would need it. They have an fr******g shield to protect them from intruders. It didn’t take long to finish my thoughts, and I heard screamings coming from the Pack’s direction.
