The door creaked open softly. I didn’t need to look. I knew it was him.
His scent hit me like a wave of comfort. strong pine, warmth, safety. But today… it didn’t soothe me. Today, I flinched.
Logan stepped inside slowly. I heard the sound of his boots against the wooden floor. I sat frozen on the edge of the bed, still in the same spot I’d been since I got back from the woods. My hands were clenched around the blanket, knuckles white. I hadn’t changed. Hadn’t moved. My heart had been racing for hours, like it didn’t know how to slow down.
“Nora?”
His voice. It was soft. Careful. My wolf whimpered inside me. She wanted to run to him, bury herself in his arms, tell him everything, but I couldn’t. That man… he said if Logan suspected something was wrong, he’d release the contract.
