After some time I find myself enjoying the lecture and the curious stares from my new classmates stop as they focus their attention.
"Who can tell me how long a vampire lives?" Professor Jackson calls out. "Anyone?"
"Forever," a male student calls.
"Is that so?" Professor Jackson asks. "Who else agrees?"
A few students raise their hands. Mei, Travis, Z, and I don't.
I look across to Z. I hadn't said anything but I remember the night we were attacked. Z had yelled out in frustration. He nods at me.
"Sir?" I call, raising my hand slowly.
The professor motions for me to speak.
"Vampires don't live forever," I say.
"Already think you know more after being in the class for barely an hour?" the same student from before sneers.
It starts. I close my eyes, take a breath, and continue.
