Three weeks, two damn weeks trapped in crutches and in a wheelchair. But now it was enough, the next person who asks if she were good; she would tear his head with a bite. Veronica took a deep breath, trying to calm the anger that the was eating her inside out.
“Everything okay Vero?” Armatos smile froze on his lips, hearing the growl escape from lips that were not supposed to make that kind of sound. Hell, Derek had reason to be scared. “No problem boss, I came to tell you that we have problems with Hiana, but if you're not in the mood.”
“Don’t you dare go through that door. I know that you've been running away from our conversation, but now there are other priorities... What happened to her?” Veronica straightened her back, the pains of been sitting to much time.
“She hasn't left her room. She eats in her room and only uses the bathroom when she is sure she would not find anyone on the road. Today she didn’t open the door to Luz after some visits.”
“What day is it and how long has she been in that room?”
“Seventeen days, two weeks, and a little more. The first week is not counted because, as you always know you give that time to our guys to accept the new place in which they found themself. However, this morning the psychologist didn’t manage to enter the room. Only Luz was allowed and she already said that she will not be going to her prenatal checkup.”
“I get it. What day are we living at?” Veronica looks a little confused and uncomfortable.
“Ah? It's Thursday... is everything...?” O the eyes, those eyes were changing.
“If you finish that question, I will tear off your tongue and hit you in the face with it.” Veronica widened her eyes the next second the words came out of her mouth. It had been years since that type of threat had not come out of her.
“Waooo… flashback. That I did not expect. Your inner teen wants to go out?”
“Sorry, I don't know what's going on. But I can’t sleep and the fact itches all over my body does not help. Thought the wounds are healing fast, but only the ankle keeps me upset. Derek is running from me as if I were the plague and you have been very busy to accompany me to catch him.” Veronica was out of her element. It was not the pain in her body, but how you explain the impossible.
“Okay... I don't understand very well, but we are going to do one thing at the time. By now we need to help Hiana, then from that, we would go to sat and talk about what is bothering you.” Armatos ask the heavens for the correct word to explain the bunch of problems that were coming their way.
“Give me a second.” Veronica took the phone and calmly called one of the mothers in charge of the homes. “Hi Deborah, yes I'm better. I know the twins were helping in your BBQ you have been planning for the end of this week, so I assumed they are in the office today. Right? It is that we have a 911 with Hiana and I think that they are going to be able to help us. You could send them to my office as soon as they arrive.” Veronica tries to think about who could help Deborah in the BBQ project.
“I would send them to you now. As always, they arrived early. If you want, we move everything to Luz's house.” Deborah always was thinking about how to help the community be together, healthy, and happy.
“I think it would be too much for Hiana at this moment. It won't be long before the lunch for Mister Brackinstong, she would see you all in that activity. For now, we are going little by little.” After an "Ok" from Deborah, Veronica turned to Armatos. After she smells him a little both were looking at one to the other as if they were one a collision of trains. You smell as Derek... come and… How the hell I know that smell is connected to Derek?”
“Take a deep breath, Veronica. You are about to hyperventilate. I promise you everything will be fine, you are not alone and soon we will be able to clarify your doubts. The truth is that we have not been heating chairs, between the case of Hiana and looking for answers with people who do not want to speak has been difficult.” Armatos promised himself to be more careful when approaching Vero. The woman was giving some disturbing jumps and had not yet passed her first moon. Every time they saw the calendar 's their hairs stand on end at the possibilities. He could give his thanks to the gods that the full moon had just passed when she...
“What the f**k are you...?” The voice of Veronica broke off before she could finish the question at the few blows on the door and the entrance of the twins.
“Hi Veronica, Debby told us we should visit you. Something about you needing us?
“Thanks, guys. I know I have no right to ask more of you than you already do. But one little girl needs us and I think that you're going to be able to get to her.” Veronica smile at the little surprise she had for those to two. Veronica saw them look worried, then nodded as she will point out the chairs, both with identical movements took a seat. Their faces were identical they looked incomplete, they were older than her. But they were trapped in faces that look to young, but the waiting and the love that shone in their eyes caused that her heart was pressed to her chest. “Thanks again. Now I am going to ask you something that I swear to myself at one time, never to do. I'm going to introduce you and place Hiana under your care. I need to be honest with her about the life you have led and how have you survived. Iliana for you both... I know that I am asking that you put your heart at the front lines the same I had asked Luz, but Hiana is alone and needs to know that around here are people who understand very well what has happened to her.
“You mean that Hiana could be for us?” Iliana asked with a calm voice.
“No, that can only be decided by Hiana. But if God helps us, both Hiana and her baby could be permanently in your care. From what Rey has told me, she already shares a connection with you without knowing it. I hope that the young woman can see in you an equally wounded soul, but especially survivors.” Veronica watched as Iliana nodded after looking at her brother. Even though he was a renowned writer, he never spoke. Iliana was the one who communicated. Their relationship was of equals and the same. “Okay, we better go take the bull by the horns. Armatos, are you coming?”
“I wouldn't miss it for the world.” Armatos whistled one tune that to Veronica it seemed like the Scooby-Doo theme, which caused that her skin itch much more than before. His smile tells her he did know it.
