Chapter 34: Anna's Death

“What the f*ck are you doing here in front of his dorm?!” Callix can’t help but to curse to his dormmate.

“I am sorry, you did not comeback I got worried then Marco said you went here that is why I waited here outside.” He explains.

“But you should just knock what if someone happened to you while waiting here!” Callix, glace at Daniel. “We will go now in our room. Let’s talk again tomorrow.” He said and pull his roommate.

Callix’s POV

“Hey! You don’t need to wait me why did you do that?” I look at him in disbelief, why did he do that? What am I, a woman who can’t protect myself if someone try to kill me? All I need is to shout and Daniel room is only on the other side.

“Why are you angry, I am just worried to you. A guy was shouting like crazy and he said there is someone wanted to kill him, you said that there is crime happening here as my roommate and my first friend here I should be worried right?” He explains.

I stare at him.

“But still, you don’t need to wait, you can knock on the door so we know that you are outside.” I said.

“But I don’t know who is the other guy so I am not sure If it’s okay to knock.” He holds his nape acting shy.

I can’t help but to click my mouth, “but you know me, you can ask if your friend is there.” I said make him to stare me.

“Why are you staring at me like that?” I asked my he just smile.

“Nothing I am just happy to know I have friend like you, by the way what did you talk about? Who is he or you can’t tell me?” He looks at me.

Can I tell him?

I just met him the other day and I don’t know about him, but I don’t know why I really want to tell him about the cases and the thing about back then.

“Can I ask you first?” I ask him and sat down on my bed.

“Sure, what is it?” He also sat down on the chair beside of my bed and look at me like a child waiting for something.

“What if… What if your friend dies but you did not do anything? To be honest, not totally but talking each other like that.” My heart start to beat fast, I feel like my eyes started to watered.

“What do you mean that you did nothing? You did not help your friend but you see what was happening?” He asked, I bowed my head and nod.

“I—I can’t do anything, I tried…No, we tried to seek for justice but we can’t to anything when all the people around us saying stop. Back then, I am just a child who suffer from bullying and I can’t afford to lose everything. I have plan for myself, for my family, if I do something everything will be vanish in the blink of my eyes.” My voice stuttered.

I break down in front of him, my sight was blurred, I can’t even breath.

I feel his trembling hand patting my back, trying to comfort me.

“It’s not your fault don’t be sorry, you are just afraid if you help that person the thing you want to do and achieve for your family will never happened. If I was you, I will do that at least you tried to seek for your friend.” He said. “But you said we, you mean your not the only one trying to investigate the crime?”

I wipe my eyes and look and him, “yes, the person I’m talking earlier, he was the man who talk to me to be eye witness that time. But even his parent is rich they can’t do anything because the other party was richer than him, he was devasted back then. He changes, now he was the most influential student here.” I explain.

“So, what did you guys talk about?” He asks, but I was stun when I see his face. Why is he look angry?

“He just said that he still can’t move on what happened back then, still missing the first girl he loved and still love. The guiltiness that he can’t do anything back then was still killing him inside, now he was ready to throw everything for that woman he loves,” I smile bitterly, “he can’t even tell his feelings to her.”

“So, he was in love with her,” he whispers.

“Yes, but their story is not meant to be each other.” I sighed.

“But why he wants to re-open the case now? Now many years has been past when its happened?”

“It’s been only two years when that’s happened and even, I can’t move on about that.” I lay down in my bed. “But at least now, we can do what we really want and what the decision is best.”

“Can I know his name? I only know he was department president and committee president. Students not calling him in his name.” He looks confused.

“It’s Daniel, you can talk to him whenever you want, he was kind and easy to be friend.” I said.

“Okay! But first let’s sleep, you must be tired because of the ruckus happened a while ago.” He lay down on his bed and roll in his blanket. “Good night, Callix thank you for trusting me and telling me your story.”

“Hmm, yeah good night.” I whispered.

I don’t know but I feel my chest so light now, maybe this time we can really do anything.

The alarm in my side table rang, but the familiar scene and scent are not present. I immediately sat down and I see nothing, Garet already left.

Did he have an early subject for this morning? This is the first time he leaves before me, he always cooks for breakfast.

The unusual thing happened now make me anxious, Garnet is my first friend also since me and Daniel become stranger back then so this kind of thing make me think something strange but maybe he just really need to do something this morning.

I did my morning routine and about to leave the room, I was ready to open the door when I see Daniel and Sir Madrigal just come out in Sir Madrigal’s room. Why they are together early in the morning?

I open my door and act like I did not see anything, I catch their both attentions make Garnet to smile widely at me.

“Callix! Are you leaving already? Sorry, Sir Madrigal called me that my Mom talk to him about something. If you have no early classes you can wait so I can cook for breakfast!” The innocent smile in his face make it impossible for me to think something is off but why do I feel that there is really something about these two guys in front of me.

“No worries, I ate some bread and drink some coffee. I will eat here for lunch though so if you can cook then maybe later?” I smile but I know it’s look so fake in front of Sir Madrigal. I clear my throat, “good morning Mr. Madrigal where are you yesterday night? Gino, last night do something weird but you did not come out to your room.” I asked him.

“Oh, last night someone died in the parking lot.” He said using his low voice, “we all go to the parking lot and see what happened, only Daniel knows what happened because he always called by School principal.” He said.

“Daniel knows that someone died yesterday?” I repeatedly asked, If Daniel knows why he did not tell me?

“Yes, he was with Mr. Lorente until the police and the other team left. Oh, by the way I have class this morning I better go, see you two again!” Mr. Madrigal walk away with us.

“Why are you look like disappointed? Because your friend did not say about what happened last night in the parking lot?” Garnet ask me while locking the door outside.

“Well, yes. We were talking last night but why he did not tell me about it and who is the victim this time? Did he was afraid that I will be anxious if I know that before Gino become like that something more terrible already happened?” I said.

“Maybe he was just worried about you, what is your subject today? For me, I have no classes this morning so maybe I will sit in to your subject.” He smiled.

“To be honest I have no early subject today so if you want let’s go to canteen and eat there, I will contact Daniel so you guys can be friend also.”

I see how excited his face are, I don’t know but I can feel that he really wants to be close to Daniel. I hope there is no ulterior motive this person is to Daniel.

We sat down on the table next to the window, I dialed Daniel number and thankfully he immediately answers it.

“hey! Where are you, can we meet now?” I casually said and look to Garnet who now walking toward to the counter to order our foods.

“Right now? I was going in the canteen to eat breakfast, where are you he said but I already see him entering. I wave my hand.

“Look on the right side the table on the window.” I laugh, he looks shock but immediately walk where I was sitting.

“Hey, you already here. This is the first time you are eating here, what is the reason.” He asked.

“Well my roommate and I having breakfast here and also he wants to be your friend too, also why are you doing here without your committees’ member.” I ask.

“They are busy, but why your roommate wants to be friend with me?” He asks me, I stare at him I don’t know what to answer in his question.

Should I tell him that I confess everything to that person because I felt I can trust him? But what if he will get angry?

“What? Why are you look so trouble I am just asking you why he want to be friend with me?” He laughed.

I was about to speak when a hand suddenly places a food in the table.

“Hi there! This food is for you.” Garnet already order for Daniel, “my name is Garnet, I am his roommate and I want to be close to you because I have no friends here just Callix and what Callix friends is my friend too.” He stares at Daniel.

I suddenly felt a tension between them, I don’t know but Garnet become hostile to Daniel in the blink of my eyes.

“Hey, why are you staring him like that. You look so rude right now.” I stop him.

“No, it’s okay you don’t need to be angry to him.” Daniel said but I can see his smile, it’s fake!

“Hey, what is wrong with you? I though you want to be friend with him then why are you acting hostile to him.” I whisper but he ignores me and still stare at Daniel.

“It is true you fell in love with someone but you did not confess your feeling to her until she died?” He casually asks make me and Daniel become shock.

Daniel immediately look at me and his brows frown.

“You did say all to him?” He asks me in disbelief.

“I am sorry, I confess everything to him last night and even about you I said it.” My hands trembled and I bowed my hand, I can’t look to Daniel.

“Wow! I can’t believe you Callix why did you do that? He just transfers in our school the other day but why to trust him easily what if he was one of them?” He whispers, he doesn’t want to be hear by someone in another table.

“Then what if I am one of them what you will do?” Now it’s Garnet who said that.

I closed my eyes, what did I do? I never think this will happened between them!

“What? You really asking me if what should I do to you? Of course, I will tell to the officer that you are part of those people who are killing the students.” He clenched his fist under the table.

“So, after you let Dianna died without doing anything, you will get her brother to prison?” My eyes widen and make Daniel stunned.

“What did you say? Dianna’s brother?” Daniel asked.

Garnet smirks, “yes, I am her brother so you are the one she was saying who always there for her but where are you when she died, you are not with her and you did nothing. You guys know the real reason why my sister died but you never approach my parents or help us in the trial. Why? Why you never show up that time? Because you afraid to lose everything you have but lose the person in your side.” Garnet stood up and walk away.

I immediately stood up and chase Garnet I also see Daniel who stood up.

“Wait, Garnet!” I shouted, I catches some attention of students on the corridor but I don’t care about that, I only need to talk to Garnet right now.

I confessed everything to Anna’s brother without knowing it.

Finally, he stops at the field where the cheerleaders practicing their dance, the music was too loud like my heart.

“G-garnet, let me talk to you please? We need to talk to you.” I want to kneel in front of him but I can’t I don’t want to gather more attention.

Finally, Daniel is here but to my surprise he kneels down while there are tears in his eyes. Even Garnet was shock and immediately sat down in front of Daniel.

“Hey what do you think your doing! You will catch the other students’ attention.” He holds Daniel to his hand and pull him up, “let’s talk there.” Garnet point his finger in the blench and walk first.

Garnet not really angry, I can see in his eyes how he looks at Daniel. He pities the man because of what happened between Daniel and his sister back then and until now, Daniel can’t move one and doing everything to give justice for his sister.

I walk with them to the bench under the Fine tree on the side.

“So, what do you guys want to talk? To be honest I don’t know what to says and what to questions to both of you. Last night when you Callix, confess everything about what happened to his friend I know from the start that he was talking about my sister. I did not expect that I will be close to someone who knows what happened to her.” He said with a low voice.

“I am sorry, I did not help her even I saw that time what they what doing in her. If only I help her then she still alive right now and she is with you.” Even I said many sorry to him I will do it, I will say sorry every minute just to make him my guilt was killing me until know.

“Actually, I understand you guys. You have your own life and have something who wants to protect and also goals in life so everything you did guys is unreasonable but you can’t stop me to seek for justice to my sister, that is the reason why I am here.” Garnet said with serious tone.

“I will help you.” Daniel said, “I will do anything to help you to re-investigate the case about the case of your sister and we will do everything just to her justice this time even my parents will hate me.” Daniel, on the other side was also serious about what he said.

I have plans and goals but, to be free in my guilt then I need to do this.

“I will be your eyes witness once the investigate run again about the case of Anna’s death.” I said.
