Chapter 27: The Truth

“From what I see, the people who gave the poison to me are from the university where the delivery man studies.” She said and glared at the young man.

“Then can you describe their faces so we can search for them and maybe he knows them.” Lorente suggested. “Are you willing to help, right?” He asked the young man.

“Of course, if I can help the investigation, I will do anything just to help you, Officer.” The young man answered.

“Then good, you can go home now. Thank you for your time.” Lorente said and also stood up, “we will go now, thank you for your help today Ms.CEO.” He smirked.

“Yeah, thank you for today, Mr. Officer and you are welcome.” She said and smiled.

Lorente and Cornel walk outside the restaurant with the woman who is now crying. The thing she did now sinks into her mind.

“I am so sorry for what I did. I did not mean to kill her. My mind was occupied at that time and I don’t know what I was thinking, why I did that. Could you please let me go Sir? My parents will be disappointed in me. I killed someone and he’s my father's child.” She cried and cried.

But the officer ignores the plea of the woman, they put the woman inside the car and Cornel started to drive.

“Now we know who did it, but we have another problem again. When will this case stop? Someone is really trying to confuse us because look, why is the canteen seller and this one become a killer if the case we have is inside the University?” Cornel can’t hide his frustration, he looks so problematic.

“What do you mean?” Lorente asked.

“I mean look, as if they are trying to make us busy to another thing outside of the university so they can roam around inside and plan their next step without a problem!” Cornel said while driving.

“What the f*ck, why did you just say it right now,”Lorente exclaimed.

“Why? Is there a problem, bro?” Cornel was confused why his partner reacted something like that.

“Are you really asking me what the problem is? The problem, Cornel, is, if you are correct about the thing you said, they are just trying to make us busy thinking we will solve the case when they chase the person who poisoned that kid, but no! They fooled us again and we bated it!” Lorente pulled his hair, “arg! I am going crazy, I thought we could finally know what the answer is, but the thing is, we are so left behind by their plans.”

“What are we got to do now? What if they already plan to kill someone right now or later? How will we explain it in the higher ups that we did our job but neglected the other one?” Cornel stopped their car; he also couldn’t focus on driving.

“What can we do? We have no super power to know what will happen. We will just wait for their next step and investigate it again; right now we are back to scratch and need to trace their every step again.” Lorente sighed. “For now, let’s go back to the station. We still need to finish this case and save her data.”

“Okay,” Cornel answered and started the engine again. No one tried to speak until they got to the station. Their comrades greeted them.

“What happened and what is wrong with the woman with you?” One of their co-workers asked.

“You won’t believe it but she is the one who poisoned the woman earlier and guess what, they are blood related.” Lorente said with, a tired tone. He was exhausted by all everything happening the whole day and he barely ate breakfast or lunch.

He could feel his head hurt so badly, there were so many things happening in just hours of his day and he did not know what will happened next.

“What, then why did she even kill her if they are blood related and how does she know that the woman is ordered and the one who ordered the foods?” Asked by his co-worker.

“Long story short, they are step sisters and we all know how a person reacts toward their step siblings,” Lorente explained. He let a deep heavy breath, “let me sleep a little, Cornel, please interview the woman. I will just rest for a bit and then we will go to the university to continue the investigation of the previous cases.” He massaged his forehead.

“Okay, you barely sleep and eat, your face says it all go to sleep and I can do the rest of this.” Cornel said while clicked his tongue and shook his head. His friend look really need some rest.

He can’t blame Lorente for being like that, he knows him for how many years when they are starting for being police and he knows how dedicated the man is to his job. Even Lorente did not says anything to him, he knew how eager his companion to solve the case and they would receive the promotion.

He sat down in front of the woman inside the cell, she was still crying while she was saying sorry for what she has done.

“Miss, no matter how you said that your sister is already dead and your sorry can’t help her to go back alive, let’s finish this one because I am so tired.” Cornel click the tip of his ball pen and start to ask the woman for her personal information. “What is your name?”

But the woman remains silent, she just bowed her hair and sob like a child on the corner, Cornel can’t help but to massage his nape due to stress he felt on those kinds of situation. Lorente did more the job than him.

“Please Miss answer my questions so I can inform your family about this, but if your really not want to talk I will just contact your dad. We already have his number when we interview your step sister.” He said.

He was about to stand up when the woman stopped him.

“N-no, please don’t call my dad. He will know I kill his daughter, he will be furious to me and he will abandon me and my mother! Please, don’t call him.” Cornel can’t help but to feel sorry to the woman.

Her face looks so terrible from the tears and snots, her body trembled from the fear knowing his dad will come there.

“Then who is the person I should inform about this one? All we know is your dad contract number but you don’t want me to call him neither give someone contact to inform your family.” Cornel feel so frustrated.

“T-then call my mom, please call my mom instead of my dad.” She said pleaded to Cornel.

“Give me her contract then, did you father hit you or doing something bad to you?” Cornel can help again his self to asked, he was curious to know why the woman looks so scared whenever he speaks about her dad.

“No, he did not. He just really loves his daughter,” she said.

“If your dad loves your step sister more than you, then why she was working in the university as food canteen seller?” Cornel was confused.

“Because, that woman is illegitimate daughter from his woman he truly loves! He can’t be with them.”

“But when we received her testimony, she said that she needs money that is why she poison the man because someone contact her.” Again, Cornel asked.

“What do you mean she needs money? My Dad and Mom gives her enough money monthly, she just wants to see the man who impregnate her accidentally. The man was studying there, a womanizer guy but she let herself to fall for his trap.”

Now, everything is clear to Cornel. The poison case is not really connected to the case they investigated, it all happen because the man named Felix impregnate the woman but does not want to be a good dad and a real man to them.

It all about revenge.

And now because of jealousy.

“Sh*t! All the thing we gathered went to waste because of this, now we again are one-foot step left behind.” Cornel said and pulled his hair.

When they think they will finally solve the case, this thing happened.

“Okay, I will contract now your mother.” Said by Cornel but before Cornel hold the phone it rings.
