“Hi Mr. Officer,” The young boy greeted Lorente and bowed to his boss. “I’m the one who delivers the foods to your station but I did not do it. First of all, you can tell you, the box is not a ruin or something. I just deliver it. That is all.” He explained immediately.
The two adults could feel the pressure of the young man because of his voice. One person was agitated because he knew from the start that all the blame would point to him because he was the last person who touched the foods.
“So you already know that you could be the prime suspect in this case, right?” Lorente signed the young man to sit down. He could see himself in the person in front of him now.
Yeah, because I know from the start I am the person you first ask, right?” The young boy let a heavy breath out, “I’m living in my grandparents’ house, because my dad died. My mother left me them and married to her new boyfriend and creates a new family, a happy family and forgets about me like I never in her life.”
“Why are you telling me this?” Lorente was confused when the man started to tell his family's broken story.
“Because this is my proof that I can’t kill someone because I have goals and dreams for my grandparents, I took an exam for a scholarship and I even had a bloodshot and nosebleed that time, but I did not stop and I received one at the nearby University, now I am working for my projects and foods.”
“What if you did it for money? They offer you a big money to kill someone by poisoning her food.” Again, Lorente asks the man a question.
“Ha, I can’t believe I will hear it again. Yes, I need money for my daily life and to help my grandparents, but I would not do anything like that, killing someone just for the money? I will not risk my life for that especially it can ruin my reputation and dreams could.” The young man seriously said to him.
Lorente stared at the man, “then can you tell me who you think did it?” He Then, making the man shocked.
“What? Are you asking my opinion, who can do something like what happened?” He gasped, “How can I answer that question. I am just a new delivery man and it’s hard to talk to them, only the person in charge of packaging the foods who always talk to me the others always try to avoid me and I don’t know the reason.” The young delivery man says.
“Do you feel them avoiding you?” The officer asks.
“Yes, I can feel it, they are avoiding me even I don’t know do anything bad to them.”
“So you will not point your finger at any of them?”Lorente is consistently asking the young boy about it. He really wants to know what is in the mind and point of view of the man.
“No, I will not. I can’t judge them and I don’t want to judge them. If I were going to point my finger at one of them, then I am wrong. My guilt would kill me.”
“But what if all of them point their finger to you, are you okay with that?” Again, the Officer. trying to sway his mind, makes him point his finger.
“Yes, it’s okay to me. I don’t have any worries if they will point their fingers to me; I am just worried you might trust their words.” The young man stared at the officer's eyes like he was saying that he should not trust any of them.
“Okay, you can go out now. Tell the woman who cooks the food to come in here.” Lorente smiled.
“Okay, thank you for hearing my story and my side. Now, it is up to you who you believe and who will be the one put in jail.” The man said.
Now, Lorente can help but to smirk from ear to ear. His plan now is making sense; they bite the bait he threw to them.
“Are you that happy? You can’t even hide the grin on your face.” The woman on the side laughed, “did they really give off the clue you want?”
“Yes, I only need one confession and I don’t have any problem with this case.” He shrugged his shoulders, looking like he was proud of himself.
“Well, if you say so, that person you will interview now is here,” the woman said, and they both glanced at the other woman who entered the room.
He looked more calm than the others, there is no sign of nervousness or guilt in her face, like she was okay and confident that the result would be okay and she would be eliminated as the primary suspect in this case.
“Good day, Mr. Officer and Ms. CEO. So what is the point of an individual interview?” She said like she doesn’t want what is going on right now, like she was riding the whole thing from the start.
“As you can see, my dear sister, you need to cooperate. Here our dearly officer need his plan to be successful so just answer all his questions so it will be done immediately.”
Lorente couldn’t help but to sigh, when he was looking for the personal information of the entire primary suspect, he did see that the chief was the sister of the CEO.
“But I am not the last person to be interviewed, hmm so ask me now.” She said with irritation in her tone.
“Can you please be formal? I am not your co-worker, neither am your brother. Stop the attitude will you?” Lorente sneered, “even if you and the CEO are blood related, how can you say you are innocent in that case?”
The woman raised her brows, “what? So you really think I will poison someone I’m not familiar with?” The calmness of the woman vanished, she looked furious now. “I can’t believe it, do you think I will do that?”
“Well…Yes, why would I skip you? You have more access to all the foods because you are the chief and no one will suspect you before you are the sister of the owner,” Lorente stared at the woman, now all he needed to do is to make sure the other one would bite the bait he would throw and everything would settle.
“How dare you!” The other employees outside can’t help but to hear her shout makes the man smirk.
“You can leave now, tell the last woman to enter so I can finish this individual interview.” He ignores the woman's shout and continues to write in his small notebook.
“Haaa! I can’t believe this!” The woman stomped her feet before walking outside the room, while her sister couldn’t help but to laugh.
“Seriously, why are you laughing? She is your sister,” Lorente clicks his tongue.
“I can’t help it, she is still immature as ever. But do you really think she’s not innocent?”
“Why would I think she’s not?”
The door makes some sound when the last person to be interviewed comes in.
“Hello, Ma’am and Mr. Officer,” She smiled at them.
“Please sit,” Lorente looked so serious.
“T-thank you,” the woman immediately sat down but she could feel the stare of the officer at her, “is there something wrong, Sir?” She asked.
“Let’s not waste our time here, Miss. Why did you do that?” Lorente stood up and walked toward where the woman was.
“W-wait Sir, What do you mean?” The woman stuttered, she became agitated and her face became pale.
“I am asking you, why did you poison one of our foods?” He repeated the question.
