I held my mom’s hand tight as we walked in the rain sharing an umbrella. This was a nice place to live when it didn’t rain, but I love the puddles to splash in! We are headed to the restaurant. We call it “The restaurant” because it’s the only one in this town. This is where my mom works as a waitress. I sit in the booth by the window and complete my schoolwork while my mom is working. I’m proud of my mom, she works super hard for us and always has a smile on her face.
We moved to this town a year ago to stay with my grandma. I asked my mom why and she just told me that my father was not a good man. I barely remember my dad. Maybe because he was rarely ever around or maybe because I was just 5 years old. I’m 6 now, my birthday was a couple months ago, on February 18th to be exact. I like having my birthday in the winter. I get to play in the snow all day and make snow forts. Don’t forget about sledding. I LOVE sledding.
As we walk in the doors to the restaurant my mouth starts to water. My tummy is awaiting my breakfast. I usually have pancakes with a side of sausage and chocolate milk, my favorite. Something else also catches my eye, someone is sitting in my spot! My mom takes my jacket off and hangs it on the hooks above my head.
“Be a good girl for Mommy, okay Ciera? I’ll have your breakfast out in a jiffy. Why don’t you go sit by Uncle William?” Mommy winks.
I sigh. I’ve only met Uncle William once, but his eyes always stare at me when I am in the room. I muster up the courage and walk to my spot, where Uncle William is sitting.
“Good Morning… May I sit here with you?” I ask shakily.
Uncle William smiles the warmest smile I have ever seen. It instantly melts my fears.
“Good Morning young lady, of course you can sit here. Make yourself comfortable.” He says brightly.
I set down my backpack and slid into the booth seat across from him. This is the first time I’ve ever gotten to talk to him and he seems like a really nice person. I smile at him and turn over my placemat. I want to color, but that requires another mission to get crayons.
“Do you want me to get you some crayons?” Uncle William noticing the blank paper in front of me.
I nod happily, “Please!” He slides out of the booth and makes his way to the secret room with the crayons. I watch him as he walks.
Uncle William is a good looking guy. He doesn’t look too old. I’d say he’s gotta be in his 30’s. Everyone else here is well over 50. Except me and my mom. Uncle William has dark brown hair that always looks perfectly cut and styled. He always wears formal clothes like suits and dress shirts. I like his style because it makes him look very handsome and nice.
I watch excitedly as he brings back the crayons to the table. “Thank you!” I respectfully say.
He watches me while I draw. I’m drawing a kitty cat and her whole family. Each of them are a different color.
“Are you going to name them?” Uncle William asks.
I nod, “I suppose so. Help me name them?” I ask.
He points to a black kitten. “His name should be Teddy. He seems like an adventurous kitten and reminds me of someone I used to know.” He explains.
I study the black kitten closely to make sure the name Teddy fits the description. I come to the conclusion that the black kitten indeed looks like a Teddy. “Teddy it is then.” I smile.
We named all the kitty cats before my breakfast came out.
“I hope she isn’t too much trouble Mr.Roxinbellar.” My mom smiles toward him as she sets my plate of breakfast down in front of me.
“She is a joy Ms. Lilac. Not a problem at all.” Uncle William exclaims as he smiles back.
