I stroked his hair, feeling a bit awkward but not wanting to disrupt his grieving. I could feel his tears soaking through the leg of my pants. Jon took my hand and rubbed circles into my palm. Was he…trying to make a move on me? I thought all of this had been in the spirit of comforting him, but now I wasn’t so sure. “Jon?” “Yeah?” he mumbled. “I think I need to go to bed now. If you don’t mind.” “Oh!” He shot up and wiped his face. “Gosh, I’m being an i***t. Of course you do. I’m sorry for keeping you up.” “No, no.” I faked a yawn. “Don’t worry about it.” I wasn’t certain how to politely tell him I didn’t want him to leave because I was tired, but because things were getting kind of uncomfortable.
