Finding Love Again

Chapter 9

I woke up to my phone buzzing the next morning, a text from Cody.

Good Morning beautiful, sorry again about last night. Can I come over after work? I missed you xx 

I didn’t want to be mad at him at all. Like it not I was head over heels for the boy. 

Morning! Sure thing, I missed you too xx 

However I was still not feeling so great about this ex. Last night was the first time I’d heard of her. Of course I wasn’t naive to the fact that Cody would have had girlfriends before me. I just assumed they would be in the past. I opened up f*******:, going to Cody’s page and checking his friends for Kali. Bingo, that was easy to find. She was pretty I guess, nothing at all like me. She had platinum blonde hair, blue eyes and kind of short. She was clearly a fan of the fake tan, fake everything really- hair, skin, eyelashes- and still had a few photos up with Cody. Basically the complete opposite of myself, I would consider her high maintenance, where I’m pretty happy with no make up and comfy clothes. I couldn’t see much else on her profile. Nothing to give me much information anyway. I was just giving up when my phone rang, it was Sarah. 

“Hey!” I answered 

“Girl! I’m 5 minutes from you, I’m picking you up. Put your runners and walking gear on!”

“Yes ma’am!” I replied, laughing to myself and hanging up the phone. We always go walking when she wants to talk. It would be good for me too, I can get things off my chest. 

As promised, 5 minutes later she arrived. I had put some teal green leggings on, a black loose tank and my black walking shoes. Grabbed a drink bottle, put some cash into my phone case and my house keys. Sarah beeped the car horn as I locked up the house. 

“Soph! You look cute!! Love those leggings!” 

“Thanks. You don’t look so bad yourself, love looks good on you” I teased as she blushed slightly. I knew her and Tom were keeping things casual. But I had a feeling she was falling for him. We talked casually until we arrived at our usual bush track, parking the car and getting out to start our walk. 

“So, I spoke to Tom” she started, “I asked about this Kali. At first he didn’t really want to talk. But I forced it out of him- I won’t tell you how. 

“Oh I’m sure I know” I rolled my eyes. 

“ANYWAY!! So, he basically said she is trouble, at first she appears all sweet, but, and these are his words, she is a snake. He says she wins parents over and still has Melissa- that’s Cody’s mum- under here thumb! He also says that she is still hung up on Cody. But Cody hates her. So like, you don’t have anything to worry about.” 

“Right. So let me get this- first you know Cody’s mums name before me-“

“Soph!! Don’t get caught up in small detail like that”

“Ok, ok. I just wish he didn’t keep this from me! So now I have to watch out for this fake b***h trying to steal my man!” 

“Fake? Sophia! You looked her up didn’t you!” 

“Guilty. She is the total opposite of me. I don’t know what he would even see in her.” 

“Well duh! That’s why they broke up and now he is totally into you! I really don’t think you have to be worried about her at all with Cody. However, I do think you need to worry about her with his mum. But also, she will love you. Everyone loves you! Your like the sweet girl next door, the marrying type. You know what I mean”

“Hmmm. We’ll see. I’m pretty nervous!”

Sunday came around pretty quick because I worked all day Friday and Saturday. Cody stayed over each night and we were on good terms again. I told him I looked her up, I even told him my opinion of her. We didn’t need to have secrets from each other. Funnily enough he agreed and told me he was a young guy when they first met and at that age, Kali was like the popular appealing chick all the boys wanted. Now that he is older, he can see her for what she is. We had a really lazy morning in bed: I had cramps half the night so I just wanted to lie down and eat chocolate. I had to pull myself together though to prepare to meet the family. Around lunchtime I got myself showered, and began trying on outfits. 

“What about this?”

“Babe, you look hot in everything! You could show up naked and impress” 

“Not helpful!! Plus I’m impressing your mum, not you!”

“Yeah ok, naked might not help. But seriously, you are beautiful no matter what you wear. Just be comfortable” he shrugged, laying on my bed with his arms tucked behind his head, watching me throw clothes around my walk in robe, an amused look on his face. 

I groaned, frustrated “but if I go to casual she will think I don’t care enough to dress nice. If I dress up too much she will think I’m trying too hard!” I pulled out a yellow maxi skirt with little white and navy flowers on it and a white loose top, it was a crop length but tied up loosely at the front, coming to my belly button. The maxi skirt was designed to wear high too. I showed them to Cody and he smiled genuinely. “Yes, I like it” 

“Great! Done! Now I’m going to do my hair, then I’ll pretty much be ready.” 

I curled my hair, then brushed through the curls so it looked like natural waves. I put some light make up on, because anything heavier would appear unnatural. I sensed Cody’s presence and looked in the mirror reflexion to see him casually leaning against the door frame, smiling at me. “Yes?” 

“Just admiring you. You’re beautiful you know.” I smiled at his words, turning towards him I wrapped my arms around his neck. I reached up and kissed him, at first gently, then harder. He snaked his hands around my hips pulling me in closer. The kiss deepened, I parted my lips slightly and he took the opportunity to move his tongue to mine, massaging it. He moved his hands down further, grabbing my ass. Before we went any further I pulled my lips away, catching my breath, burrowing my head into his neck. He moved my hair to the side, kissing my neck, with soft kisses. “Cody, we really should get going.”

“Mmmm. I’d rather stay here with you.”

“We need to get this over with.”

He sighed, grumbling an ok and let me go so I could grab my shoes and belongings. We headed for his car, ready to face the family! Oh boy was I nervous. Little did I know what was in store for the night.
