Chapter 15

The next morning we we were again the last ones to come to breakfast. There was a stack of pancakes on the table, along with a fruit platter, waffles and some bacon and eggs. A small breakfast buffet. I sat beside Hayley, who had a sparkle in her eye while Cody got us coffee before sitting down again. “Enjoy your night?” I said to Hayley, she beamed but was being cagey. “I’ll tell you about it later”. I laughed, knowing she didn’t want her parents to hear about it, but that she eagerly wanted to discuss.  “How was your night kids?” Aunt Mel asked.  “Good.” The boy’s replied, more interested in their breakfast.  “Yup I had fun.” Hayley responded. “Yeah I bet you.. ow!!” Ash started saying but his sentence cut short by a swift kick under the table from Hayley. He greased her off then kept eating.  Cody cleared his throat while I stayed quiet. “Actually our night was great. Mum, Dad, we uh.. “ he started stalling a bit, but by now he had everyone’s attention at the table. “Well I’ve decided that I’m going to move in with Sophia. I’m always over there anyway, so you know it makes sense” he was nervous for their response, so he felt like he needed to give extra reasons for the decision. We all waited for a response. Grant spoke first “Can’t say I’m very surprised. I mean it’s very soon, but it’s very clear how much you care for each other. Happy for you son.” We both looked at each other and smiled, Cody pressed though. “Mum?”  “I agree with your father. We all knew it was coming, I’m happy for you, you two are good together”. Just about everyone at the table either dropped their cutlery or spit out their drinks. Jill continued.  “I was wrong to judge you so fast Sophia, I’m sorry. I’m also sorry for inviting Kali last weekend, that was very bad judgement. I should have gotten to know you first and given you a chance. You are a strong young woman, open and honest. Most of all you make my son the happiest I’ve ever seen him.”  We were all a little dumbstruck, not sure if she was just saying this or she was genuine. I spoke first, “umm thank you Jill. Your support means a lot to us. We will have to have you for dinner so you can see the house your son will live in. Of course, you are all welcome any time.”  “Yeah, thanks mum. We’ll sort out the finer details during the week I guess.”  Slowly, everyone came back to life and conversations continued. Everyone seemed genuinely happy for us and not all that shocked. We asked about their fancy night out, but there was nothing exciting to tell. After breakfast Hayley dragged me outside. We sat in the warming sun on the garden bench, she was bursting. “Soooo! How did it go?”  “Omg so good!! I didn’t have s*x or anything, don’t worry! We just made out a lot. His home is near ours and I got his number, he promised that we would meet up for a date next week! Omg thank you so much for helping me!” I hugged her, “my pleasure! I’m glad to see you happy.”  “Can I approach? Or is this secret girls talk?” Cody slowly approached us.  “You can approach. We are done” Hayley responded, still smiling.  “Good to see you happy sis! You know we have a spare room, so if you ever want to stay I’m sure neither of us will mind.” “I’d love to! Thanks guys.” With that she got up and left.  “So we’ll head home after lunch babe. That ok? Back to reality tomorrow.”  “Yeah of course that’s ok. This weekend has been great. I like your family and hey! It seems your mum has come around.” “I knew she would, how could she not. You’re perfect... and sexy as hell” he said, stepping closer and standing between my legs as I sat on the bench still. “I’m not sure your mum likes me because of that. She would probably hate me if she knew what we get up to in our spare time” I teased. He laughed, pulling me up, holding me by the waist as we headed back inside. “Mmm you’re probably very right. She doesn’t have a clue how naughty her perfect son really is” he smirked. Memories of our love making, or just hot s*x on the beach flooded my mind and I blushed slightly.  Just then Dan came running out of the house, “last one to the beach is a rotten egg!”  “Well looks like we are heading to the beach! I’ll go get changed.” Kissing Cody on the cheek I made my way upstairs.  We enjoyed our morning at the beach, we all swam, sunbaked and then started a game of beach volleyball. It was a fun day, full of laughter. At one point I took a moment to sit down and soak it all in. I couldn’t believe that this was my life now. I never enjoyed time like this with Matthew or his family. I thought about what if he didn’t die, by now we would have been married and would I have been happy? Was I ever this happy when I was with him or was it just because he saved me from myself and my toxic relationship with my dad when I was 18. Maybe I felt I owed it to him to continue our lives and marry. If I’m totally honest, I never felt this happy and like I belonged this much. It was a terrible thought, but it almost felt like him dying was able to free me of him to be really happy. After all, I never would have met Cody. Cody and I just fit so perfectly together in every way. s*x sure wasn’t as good with Matthew as it is with Cody, when he wanted to touch me that is. Oh gosh, what a terrible person I am thinking it’s good he is gone for my own benefit.  “Penny for your thoughts?” It was Aunt Mel, who I didn’t even notice had sat beside me.  “Oh hey! I was just thinking. I’m happy, truely happy. If I’m honest, I don’t think I’ve ever been this happy... even when I was to be married..” I trailed off quietly.  “What is meant to happen will my darling. It isn’t always easy, no. But would life be worth living if everything was always easy and perfect?” “You are so right. I’ve always believed that everything happens for a reason. Almost that we all have had this path drawn out for us, but every thing that happens is because we need to learn, be challenged and experience true heartache to then know the good times and that they should be cherished.”  “You are wise beyond your years young lady. In the best way possible” We sat in silence after that. I enjoyed the view of my man in just his board shorts, his built body glistening in the sun. Every now and then he would glance to me to make sure I was ok. I would give him a reassuring smile.  We all enjoyed fish n chips on the beach for lunch, it wasn’t quite as hot as yesterday. When we were done we headed back to the house to pack up our stuff. Saying goodbye to everyone and thanking them warmly for their hospitality. We promised we would be over for dinner during the week as Cody needed to start packing his things anyway. I slept half the way home, we got some McDonald’s before pulling in. Early night that night after a long, fun and necessary weekend for our relationship.
