After work Sarah and I headed to the shops for a bit of retail therapy. We were trying on dresses when she brought up Cody again.
“Sooooo, Cody. I’m going to cut to the chase. He’s hot, you have a thing for him! I think you should go for him.”
I just about choked on how forward she was being. I studied the dress I was trying on, a cute skater dress, up top it sculpted perfectly around my breasts, following my waist down and flaring out at the skirt. Not too short, so I can bend over in it! Navy blue in colour, it offset my slightly tanned skin tone, blonde highlighted hair and green eyes. The back came down low, but not below bra strap. Perfect for a casual night at the bar or heading to the food trucks and live band like we were planning tonight. It’s heading into Summer months, so the nights are getting warmer.
“You know, you might be right for once. I mean he is hot. But he wouldn’t be interested in me anyway. I’m damaged goods.”
“You never know if you don’t try!! By the way- that dress is hot. Wear some nude wedges and you’re good to go!”
I laughed, getting changed again. I bought the dress and we walked out. We went back to my place to hang out before heading to the food trucks for the night ahead.

We jumped out of the Uber, heading in, making a beeline for the taco truck. My favourite! I ordered Sarah and I some taco’s and finding a table near the live music. We were digging in when I looked up and behind Sarah stood Tom and Cody. Sarah noticed my eyes move behind her and turned to look.
“Oh heyyyy! Fancy seeing you guys here! Come, sit, join us!” The boys sat down, to say I was nervous and hella awkward was an understatement. Matthew and I had been together since I was so young that I felt like I didn’t even know how to talk to guys anymore. Sarah was a natural flirt! She went right to work on Tom batting her lashes and he fell under her spell. I awkwardly finished my taco’s noticing Cody was watching me, smirking.
“What? Something on my face?”
“Haha, no. Just watching you devour that Taco like no ones business! I like it, you don’t seem to care what other people think of you.”
“Uhhh.. to be honest I didn’t even notice.” I giggled embarrassed that I was so unaware of my actions.
“So, Sophia. Tell me about yourself, I mean know you make a terrific coffee. But your a bit mysterious, you don’t give much away about yourself. Something tells me you’ve been hurt. I’ve seen the way you drift off to a distant place while working. It’s in your eyes.”
“Uhh yeah. Something like that. But really, there’s not much to me.” I was absolutely not ready to tell them practical stranger about my past.
“Ok then. If you won’t tell me, let’s have some fun instead. Come, dance.” Cody stood up, taking my hand and leading me to the dance floor in front of the live band. For the next few hours we danced casually. Just having fun. I haven’t let me hair down like this in so long! No pressure, just getting lost in the music together.
