Chapter Three

561 Words
I was sound asleep when my 6:45 alarm filled the room. I swear that s**t scared the hell out of me every time, even though I already knew what it sounded like. As I sat up rubbing my eyes, I looked over and saw my husband tightening his tie preparing to leave for work. He is so handsome. He is about 6'5, has caramel skin, hazel eyes, low black hair cut, and a big perfect smile to top it off.  "Good Morning Leah" he said in a stern voice. "Good Morning Sweetheart" I responded while yawning. "How did you sleep?" He asked while picking up his black briefcase. "I slept okay. Still pretty sleepy"  He walked over and sat next to me on our bed. "Well why didn't you sleep as good as you usually do pumpkin?"  "I don't know.. I guess it was just a long day. But guess what?" "What?" He responded.  "I won my case yesterday" "Foreal?" He shouted with a smile on his face. I knodded my head yes. "Oh I'm so happy for you baby!" He said as he embraced me with a hug. Lord he smelt so good. "I know Johnson didn't think he was gonna beat New York's finest lawyer. And since you won, we're gonna celebrate tonight. We're going to the best restaurant New York has to offer. I will leave you my debit card so you can go get dolled up, and I'll have my assistant make us a dinner reservation. I will be back around 8 to pick you up." I didn't even know what to say. My husband had never done this before. I mean yeah, we went on dates, but never like this.  "Okay" I giggled still in shock. "Okay" he responded filling his face with a big smile. He stood up, fixed his sightly wrinkled suit, and knelled down giving me a long kiss.  "I'll see you at 8" he whispered with a smile.  What had gotten in him?  After he left I called my assistant and told her to completely clear my schedule. I jumped in the shower, threw on some sweatpants and a medium Clemson Tigers shirt, slid on my sandals, grabbed my purse and keys, and headed towards the door. As I walked out, I set the house alarm. The alarm began to go off. "Goddamn it!" I yelled trying to put in the 4 digit code.  Then my house phone rang, and I already knew who it was. "Hello?" I answered "Hello Mrs. Phillips. We were alerted that there had been a break in. Is everything okay?" The operator asked. "Yes, everything is fine. But my system has been acting a little weird. Can you send someone out here to check on it?" I asked. "Um, we're running a little short on workers right now, but we will send someone out there as soon as we can." "And when do you think that'll be?" I asked. " It could be a couple weeks mam." "A COUPLE-" I stopped before I went off on him.  " Okay that's fine" I said calmly. "Have a good day Mrs. Phillips" "Yeah, you too." I responded sarcastically. I hung the phone back on the wall, grabbed my keys, and headed out the door. I wasn't gonna let that bullshit ruin my good mood.  I had a date tonight.
