I couldn't believe my eyes. It was him. Like actually him. I thought I would never see him again since New York is such a big place. But there he was standing right in front of me. My new neighbor.
"Hello, um can I help you?" He said
"Hi. My name is Shawn and this is my wife Leah."
I could see his eyes dart towards me. He must've not known it was me because he was just as shocked as I was. When our eyes met, I quickly looked away.
"Nice to meet you both" he said while looking back at my husband with a smile.
"And your name is?" Shawn asked.
"Oh I'm sorry. I'm Julian. Julian Tyler."
You guessed it. My new neighbor is the man I was temporarily in love with for five minutes the other day.
"It's nice to meet you Julian. Welcome to the neighborhood" my husband said while shaking his hand.
"Thanks man" Julian responded with a smile.
"Well we don't wanna hold you long, we just came over to introduce ourselves. So maybe we could hang out soon, you know get to know each other."
"Yeah, that would be great" Julian replied.
"Alright well we'll see you around. My husband said as we turned around.
As we began to walk away, Julian said "It was nice to see you again Leah"
I slightly turned my head around and replied "It was nice to see you too." And gave him a smile.
I could feel Shawn staring at me, but I tried my best to avoid eye contact.
Shawn was quiet until we walked in our house.
"What was that back there? He asked with a confused look on his face.
"What was what?" I replied
"How did that guy know you?"
"Oh, it was nothing. We just had a small encounter the other day" I said while dealing the cards.
"Well, what was the encounter?"
"I was walking out the nail salon, and I dropped my purse. He was just nice enough to help me out. That's it" I said annoyed.
"That's it? He just helped you pick up your stuff? Because it didn't seem like that was all that happened. Did you see how he looked at you Leah?!" He said beginning to raise his voice.
"Shawn I told you what you wanted to know. He helped me pick up my things. I don't even know why you're trying to get so deep into this conversation Shawn. You act like I met up with him later and f****d him." I replied basically screaming.
"Since when do you talk to me like that?" He asked while staring me down waiting for an answer.
"I'm going to bed." I replied while walking upstairs.
"I'll be sleeping down here."
I stopped in the middle of the staircase. Right before I was about to go back down the stairs and apologize, I realized it wasn't even my fault. So I continued heading to our bedroom. As soon I arrived in my room, I automatically got in the bed.
My husband was the jealous type. I don't know where it came from, because he hasn't always been like that. I guess things change, and people do too.
My husband was one of those people.
