Chapter 16
Doyle went home feeling defeated. Not because of the case but because Kord had shut them down so completely. There was nothing he could do, no negotiating, nor reasoning with him. They were through even before they got started.
He took a shower and went to a restaurant that never failed him when he was feeling down. A neighborhood institution, the Cozy Kitchen served his favorite comfort foods. Doyle pushed open the door and was greeted by the aroma of burgers frying and strong coffee brewing. Taking a seat at his favorite booth at the back, he thought about what he’d like to eat. Tonight he felt like meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Lots of gravy, a biscuit or two, some string beans, and all would be well with the world.
